Beefsteak??
getting nosey
Chipotle Mexican Grill serves almost entirely organic.
All of chicken and pork is naturally fed. They are working on the beef, it is at about 65% now and they use no dairy products that have been altered or fed hormones.
Congratulations, Dave. From the pics, you have a gorgeous place -- your own slice of heaven. Would love to see more pictures of the land when you have a chance to post them.
Dave, any solar plans??
Congratulations Dave! Your new ranch looks beautiful from the pics.

Wow, Dave & Trish -- congratulations! I just noticed your town change, too!
Good to know that you are here in east Texas.I am a native of Tyler. Welcome!
Thanks :)
Isn't Chipotle owned by McDonald's?

Yes it is
A fine home to raise a family. A new home, complete with workshops and outbuildings. I'm so happy all your hard work these past years has provided you with such a wonderful reward. Congratulations.
The cat looks like Texas.
Or something.
(What a great picture!!!)
What a great looking cat...
Dave,
Are you milking that Jersey? They make enough milk for you and the calf. I visited one place that had jerseys and they had four calves on each cow. They were all rolling fat. My DH is constantly debating the pros and cons of a milk cow.
You mentioned something about altered animals. Are you planning on raising your bull calf without changing him to a steer? If so, what is the benefit of that?
You are pretty close to Buffalo, are you coming to our June 8th RU?

Hi Dave,
Congrats on the new abode! You are even more mobile than I am and thats saying something. I thought you only just moved to College Station and there you are gone again. What prompted this one, and is it really permanant this time????
Chipotle spun off McDonald's almost 2 years ago. Totally, totally independent now.
Because of their mission to feed us only unadulterated food, it is one of the fastest growing companys in the USA. I beg all the time for one near my home. Have to go 17 miles to the nearest one, and I do.

This is the first time I have seen this thread. Congratulations, Trish and Dave on a wonderful move and wishing you lots of serenity. I left here when I was 17 to go to college and didn't come back to live until 4 years ago. Never did I dream I could fit right back on the farm so easily after living in Houston for so many years of my adult life. This is definitely where I want to live and grow old.
Lou, you may have to admit that we don't know anybody (besides west Texas where the land is totally barren) who owns 50,000 acres in Texas anymore. When the King Ranch was divided, the big ranchers bought up 5 and 6 thousand acres each. Yes, there are larger parcels of land but not 50,000 acres in the pretty part of Texas. (I don't think..???)
Lin, I have my heart set on you all coming down in the fall!
Lou whats that fact you learned about flying state flags with the US flag?
Dern. down through the years, I have typically moved residence more often that my brother changed his socks. Yet at this point I think Dave has out done me on number of moves & wish him & his the best in their new abode.
That'd be a good thread. How many times has one moved, lol. :)
Had a very nice, kind correction concerning the flying of the state flag. Seems it is correct for any and all states to fly their flag even with the stars and stripes. Have heard the myth about Texas flag all of my life. Of course, it was most probably started by a Texan. Thank you, sweezel, for the information. Important to learn something new everyday.
I don't know how to do the blue quotes, Tir_Na_Nog. That is quoted from another post above this.
I have moved 13 times since the children were born and now grown. Not counting all the moves in college and work after college before marriage. That would be a fun thread.
Looks like wonderful peaceful place. Lot's of space to do what ever you have time for. You even have room to punch few oil wells and be really independent.
Did you see the story of the guy in Indiana that drilled one in his back yard - he gets 3 barrels a day. http://www.google.com/search?q=Oil+Well+in+back+yard&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1
Congrats, Dave and Trish! What kind of house you building? Log, brick, stick frame? Our dream home is log...one of these days :)

Dave,
If you upgrade the fencing and decide to raise some bison, we need to talk. There are some great bison producers in Texas, but we can still import from SD cheaper, so we keep hoping for a local that will meet our price-point.
Bison Association rules are tough, but you already meet or exceed them.
Belated Congrats Dave and Trish.....BTW Terry, evey Texan KNOWS this is God's country!

Is there really a place in Texas called "Toadsuck"???
Congrats Dave and Trish we also do the cows and rotational grazing. Having a tough time buying more cows right now since our local sale barn closed. The next close one is about 40 miles away and the sales are on a weekday. My husband is not retired yet so this is not convenient. We also have donkeys to protect our young. We have riding mules too. Loving your beautiful pasture land. Don't get so caught up in grass rotation, fert, baling, fencing(a full time job) and all that farm stuff that you forget to plant your pretty flowers. I know you like your privacy but keep posting some pictures now and then. Raised our kids like you are doing and they are productive normal adults. LOL We have a day on the farm for my grandsons class each year. This year we had 9 adults come that had never seen a cow up close. All our cows are spoiled and will feed bread right out of your hand. The adults were as joyful as the children. So sad we live too fast.
Our newest baby donkey
Best to your family Cindy
Cindy,
We take lots of pictures, so I'll post some in the future. :) I thought about posting a sort of picture tour of my property, such as it is. We're taming it little by little.
If you're looking for cows, there's a desperate gentleman in Grand Saline, TX who has been trying for some time to sell off ten angus/brangus cross heifers. They are weaned and ready for pasture. Last I checked, his price is now $340 each and I know he'd make a special deal if you wanted them all. http://easttexas.craigslist.org/grd/721317534.html
best,
dave
Thanks Dave but we are looking for mature cows. We have had a time with these heifers having babies. The older cows have a lot less rate of problems in birth or losing the calf to long labors. We have a registered black angus with Gridmaker blood line. He is supposed to help throw smaller calf weight at birth but large weights at sell off time. Although our last bull was supposed to have the same affect the calves were very large at birth causing higher rate of difficult birth. I know you have not dealt with all this yet because you herd is new. I am sure you do intend to breed some of those momma cows? It is really rewarding working with this side of nature too. Thanks for the heads up anyway. Cindy
Indeed, we'll be breeding them. We're researching our bull at the moment, actually. :)
If you research your bull enough, do you get a BS degree?
; )

Beautiful Jackinsonville! Yes - The secret is out...
Texas is full of trees now the west by NM and the far north of Texas is more desert looking but most of Texas is full of lush Forest and trees. I am about 25 mins away from downtown Houston and still tons of trees:)
