Can rhubarb be killed???

Seattle, WA

I love rhubarb, but it definitely does not belong in the beds in my front yard. I thought I had dug it all out, but it's BACK! Is this a dig to China type of situation?

When I want to get rid of a nuisance plant I cut it short and cover it with black plastic for a month and that usually does it. I am one of the don't pollute the earth with round up people. (In other words a tree hugger).

My mother got rid of hers by digging it out for 2 or 3 years until it was all gone.

Pour a big pot of boiling water on it.

That's good advice dale...I often do the equivalent when I turn on the hose and just start watering after it's been lying in the sun all day.

Oh another idea is white vinegar. I use it on weeds.

zen, but don't you need commercial strength vinegar not the mild stuff you keep in the fridge?

Those are all very good ideas, although the boiling water makes me think of medieval torture. Still, if I weren't concerned about my trees, I might consider that on my weedy patches. Dale, would it work on weeds, or are they impervious?

A large pot of boiling water will kill anything, including us. Round up works too, especially effective if you don't add water. You can 'paint' it on the plants with a brush.
