Yayy!!!
Way go to Lin, such pretty blooms too.
May flowas
Just getting a chance to catch up on all this thread. Great blooms everyone!
I love that Lacunosa 'Tove' ... really pretty bloom, is it fragrant like the regular lacunosa?
Carol, would love to see a close up of that H. lobbii and of course the blooms when they open! Red leaves? Is that because of the amount of light or is that the normal foliage color on that one? My old eyes can't see the color in the photo but it sounds really neat. Wow! 5' long ... really cool! If I had one that long I'd have to hang it in a tree ... if it were in the pool enclosure I know the cats would think it was something I hung up for them to play with.
Thanks 3G ... I have been watching it like a hawk for the past two weeks, thinking it was gonna blast again! I was gone all day today and just went to look at it and was so excited to see some of the buds had opened! YAY! I guess it finally got used to the conditions inside my house! I got this one in a trade with Kimskreations (on the AV forum) last fall and it has blasted the buds twice so I am so glad it finally decided to like it's new home!
Lin, 'Tove' is actually more fragrant than regular lacunosa, to me. It smells a bit like carnations, but also like perfume. A good, not overpowering perfume.
Congrats on the multiflora. I think its one of the best Hoya for a houseplant, always seems to be blooming!
Isn't the multiflora beautiful?!!!!! Congratulations!
The red leaves are from the exposure to bright light! Will take some photos of it.....
I'm now adding H. lacunosa 'Tove' to my lenghty list of future acquisitions! If it smells even better than the regular lacunosa I know I will love it!
I am loving the multiflora! I was afraid it wasn't going to make it at first. It really was one distressed hoya shortly after moving from Maine to Florida! Within a couple of weeks the leaves began yellowing and I really thought it wasn't going to survive. Then I read on this forum that the multiflora loves water. I think it was Doug who recommended putting it in a self watering African Violet pot ... and since I grow a few violets, I did just that! It seemed to perk up almost overnight. So, Thank You Doug for that great advice! It was disappointing to have it blast the buds twice but I wasn't too upset since it perked right up and is healthy again!
A couple of my cuttings from the DL order are looking a bit better, so I am one Happy Hoya Mama right now! I really thought all was lost! I only ordered 6 and one was completely dead but hopefully the others will make it and in a few years I will have some more big healthy hoyas!
Oh my goodness! I have heard of that Hoya but never seen it. I can't believe the color of that bloom! Very Vivid! Very Nice! That is amazing ... looks like someone painted it. Now I'm curious about the foliage on that one and the size of the leaves.
Going googling!
Oh, I found it in PF and I Love the foliage too! Very pretty Hoya!
Wow, that is a big difference. still a really pretty flower ... and Oh! that foliage! What a beauty!
Stella, I'm so jealous of your green thumb with H. bella. It may be common, but I can't get it to grow for the life of me, while I have no problem with some of the rarer hoyas! I love both the scent and the gorgeous flowers - lucky you!
Julia
Oh, it was the lighting in my photo of H. cinnamomifolia that made it look more yellow. I used a halogen light and didn't color correct.
Beautiful shots, Julia!
Gorgeous, Jan. That's one I don't have. Love the red and white.
Julia
Julia...great flowers! Don't you love mindorensis?
Jan...great pachyclada.
I do love mindorensis - it flowers almost constantly for me!
Speaking of flowers.... here is a link to a database DH created of the gardens... I don't remember knowing about it...he is so funny!!!

Carol,
I bet a day never goes by that you don't think about how lucky you are to live in such a paradise. Wow! is all I can say. Do you really grow all those different kinds of fruit on your property?
Doug
Carol,
Those are Amazing photo's!! Your DH did a phenomenal job creating that! I see tons of pictures you should enter in the photo contest next year! Wow! Really Stunning! You live in Paradise and I Thank You and your DH for sharing these Beautiful photo's of your world!
I can't imagine being on an airplane or boat for the length of time it would take to get to Hawaii but I know if I ever got there I would NEVER want to leave!
Lin
HAHA - yes we grow all that fruit!!! What we don't eat we take to the Food Bank and use it to trade for fresh farm eggs at a local B&B. When I am 'laid up' I am going to try to put proper names to some of the heliconias, bromiliads etc.
Glad you liked the link. See why I get tired?
Thanks!
Carol, I agree with Lin. Your DH did a wonderful job!!!!
Julia, I love your mindorensis. I wish mine would bloom one of these days.
Weeding, I love obovata even if no fragrance.

Carol, I didn't know you grew coffee and orchids as well? Woman, the only thing lacking are the miniature shetland ponies! Is the "school house" your dwelling space?
Sunshine, nice shot - I grow H. motoskei and a couple publicalyx together for the same effect - I like the contrasting flowers.
Julia
Carol, I really enjoyed your pictures. Your DH did a great job. My lifelong dream was to visit Hawaii. My father was there in the Marines when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I would love to visit the memorial. I probably will have to wait until my next life or next husband. ^_^.
My DH is afraid to fly and is also afraid to go on a cruise ship. He has too many fears!. I'm game to try anything. We have been married 53 years and only traveled the US. One of these days............................
I did not follow this thread too tightly, but you seem to live in a veritable paradise, Carol. I was looking at the pics, and was thinking that that place is where I would like to retire to. Wow. Lava tubes, tropical plants and heavy equipment. Flipping paradise.
Thanks for the pics.
Wow Carol! I love the pictures at your site. I have a question about one of the fruits. What does the Abiu taste like?
Wow- Carol....if I ever make it to Hawaii can I visit? Amazing....
Jan and Awanda - beautiful flowers!
Carol - Oh how I want to be your neighbor!!!
HAHA - see what you missed, Karen!!! No...that school house is presently the catchall for what we don't want in the big house....the biggest 'Junk Room' ever!!! Oh, I knew something was missing...miniature Shetland Ponies!!!! And Tessa can come over to ride with Isabella!!!
Great flower Awanda...does it have a fragrance? What are the leaves like?
Love that link from your DH Carol ! I am going to save it for 'me' time tonight
with a cup of tea....
Paula
Carol hoya 80-03 had no smell :-(. I will take a picture of the leaves tomorrow. Ted said at first he thought it was tjadasmalangensis, but he said the flowas are different than his. He is doing some checking and will get back with me.
Blessings,
Awanda
ETA this hoya does have a nice light smell at night!

I love how Awanda just stumbles across hoyas in bloom, while I obsessively check mine for the smallest hint of a peduncle! (is that a peduncle...ooops, no, it's just a mealie! dang.)
Julia
Julia, I'm just like you. I'm out there every morning searching for peduncles. I hope, I hope, I hope I find some. ^_^
