Jelly like substance on lawn

Charlevoix, MI(Zone 4b)

A friend of mine (not a DG-er) lives just outside of Ottawa. A couple of days ago, they discovered several patches in their lawn where there is a clear, jelly like substance. They have no idea what it is. I thought it might be those water-retaining crystals that somehow got tossed outside, but they never had any of those!

Is it possible that this is a frog egg mass? No idea... :)

wow that is just gross! A visit from Slimer! Maybe snails? Does it look like there are tiny eggs in there? Not that I would get that close to it....

It is gross, isn't it?? BLECH! My friend won't get close enough to see if there are eggs. I tried to get her to poke it with a stick (I would have, lol) and examine it, but she won't. If only I and my little boy lived a few hundred miles closer.

lol@ poking it with a stick. It could be the Blob.

Could be a fungus if the weather has been rainy/damp/cool. There are some mighty interesting fungii out there. Ever hear of dog vomit fungus? And that's pretty much what it looks like too.

Isn't that a slime mold? That (slime mold) was one of the first things I thought of, but it didn't really look like any of the pictures that I could find.

Maybe snail eggs? Go ahead...poke it.

I can't!! I live in Michigan and she lives outside of Ottawa~ believe me, if that stuff was on MY lawn, it woulda been poked and prodded and picked up a million times already!! :)

Oh, sorry! LOL I just noticed you said it was a friend elsewhere! Still looks like snail or slug eggs.

Alien poop!

RUN!

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I had a mystery gelatinous blob in my yard last year, right about this time, actually, and someone told me they thought is was from a Toad, I think. Mine was a more formed glob than yours though....more like a piece of dirty clear jello. Yuck!

That really is some gross ectoplasmic yuck!

(Zone 7a)

OH no! Aliens again! LOL

(Zone 7a)

I just saw Men in Black on TV again, and I'm pretty sure thats what's left AFTER Will Smith comes by and takes out the alien. So, no worries! Our government is working for you! Or for Canada, as the case may be.

Or it could be some kind of eggs. I think your friend should take some into her house, put it in a jar, and then see what happens. Because it's not MY house....

With honors, Sir!

Mableton, GA(Zone 7a)

That is disgusting! YUCK! I'd poke it too. If it didn't look like amphibian eggs, I'd have to squench (?) my eyes almost shut, get a long handled shovel, scape it up and throw it away. Holding my breath the whole time. If I didn't get rid of it, it would be calling me and calling me to come "check it out" everytime I went outside.
GROSS and good luck!
