Gosh darn, if my camera were working, I'd have started this new page with that wonderful little Lazuli Bunting! He came back to the platform at least 4 times. I knew when the camera quit working that I'd be seeing brand new birds. My luck, phooey!
I got this Audubons when my PC was down last week. (shucks, it's always something, isn't it?)

This is the same bird first as pictured. He was very kind and cooperative for me. For about two weeks there were warblers just everywhere, but they seemed to disappeared when the winter weather was forecast again. Thankfully, we didn't get the predicted snow this time.
There's something not quite right in watching the hummers zip through the falling snow.
Nice start Tiger. Rose, how do you get such nice shots of the hummers?!!!
Wow! Another super start, thanks tigerlily!
Grasmussen, love the Sandhill Crane shot!
No picture, but when I was fixing dinner last night a male rosebreasted grosebeak came in. So they are back. B orioles can't be far behind.
Cparts...congrats...we have them spotted in our area but I haven't seen one yet. If I ever do I will announce it with CAPS!!
Gary...Great shots, I love the Cranes!!
GP...Most of the pics of the Hummers I shoot from an open window or door! I have the feeders placed to allow me to get a fairly close pic at different times of the day! I love it when they land on the Snowball Bush in clear view. Thank you!
Wow lots of great pics everyone!
tiger, Love that Black-headed Grosbeak!
Rose, All wonderful shots!
Gary, Great shots of the Canada Geese and I love the Sandhill Cranes!
GG, Love the Blue Jays!
Gorgeous pic Rose!
Cool shot thru the window Pelle!
Thanks Pelle...we cross posted!
wonderful pics! I had forgotten how nice the meadowlark looked.
So, I went looking for info on they White-Throated Sparrow, and found this info on Cornell:
#
The White-throated Sparrow comes in two color forms: white-crowned and tan-crowned. Tan-crowned birds have dull whitish or light tan head stripes, and more brownish chests that usually contain some streaking. In the spring when the sparrow is most brightly colored, most individuals are easily assigned to a color morph. In fall, the morphs are more similar and many birds appear intermediate between the two.
# The two color forms of the White-throated Sparrow are determined by genetic differences, and are unique among birds. Oddly, individuals almost always mate with a bird of the opposite morph. Males of both color types prefer females with white stripes, but both kinds of females prefer tan-striped males. White-striped birds are more aggressive than tan-striped ones, and white-striped females may be able to outcompete their tan-striped sisters for tan-striped males.
And so here is the tan form.
We have some here right now and I noticed the difference. One is very white and black on the head with bright yellow spots, the other is a duller version of the same. I thought it was just male and female.
What an education I get here.
I love their call. (they only stay a couple weeks and move on more north)
beautiful Meadowlark. I wish we got them here. I love the shots with beaks open! they look so bird-like! :)
Neat shot of the Chipping Sparrow, Sybil.
Pelle, the woodpeckers are wonderful, and I love the little Chickadee. I think they are so darned cute.
Rose, beautiful Meadowlark. Hog Heaven, indeed. Those Jays are pigs!!
Mrs. Ed neat picture but goodness, just when I learned to identify a white-throated sparrow, you tell us that there are TWO color forms of this sparrow. Woe is stupid me.
Here is a picture from yesterday, a Hairy Woodpecker (at least, I cannot see any bars).
Beautiful pics and beautiful shots everyone! Wonderful and clear!
We had the male Rose Breasted Grosbeaks here during Spring migration for a few days ( so far ). One day at different times, I saw one, then two, then three and wow-ee! four males in the backyard at the same time at other times! Very beautiful and sweet birds! Wished they would stay all Spring and Summer here! Today, I saw a female Rose Breasted Grosbeak! DH and I weren't able to get any pics of the Grosbeaks yet. Hope they still migrate through here in the coming days and weeks. We also see them during the Fall migration.
