Morning Glories 2008 #04

A - Gosh! I am wiping the drool off my keyboard. I love this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4929558

I loved the name "The Candidate"! Very cool! You should grow some seeds out again from that one!

You are going to have to share some seeds of your YB with me! I can't believe you got that lovely pink color. It's really beautiful! The seed was obviously crossed with something.

Ok ... I just looked at your photos again and they are ALL stunning! :-)

My vines are growing around my picket fence ... I can't wait for blooms. And I just planted 25 more cultivar of MG seeds along my privacy fence in those crazy rectangular pots. Those containers worked well for me last year, so what the heck ... figured I'd try some seeds in them again! :-)

I just have to tell y'all that my Kohkan vine is just amazing! If it never blooms, I have still fallen in love with it! The foliage is gorgeous! And boy is it ever a lush "baby" vine. I remember the blooms so well that PamSue posted. I hope mine look just as lovely. This vine is an all around winner in my book!

Also have Beckys Hot Pink Frost and Yaguruma Blizzard growing.
A your blooms are all gorgeous, love them all.

Here was a surprise this morning . . .

Sorry about the fuzziness of these pictures . . . the camera function on the camcorder is not as good my "normal" camera.

Here are a few more from this morning . . .

Looks like Gray Fog? NICE!!! My Gray Fog bloomed up a storm for me last year!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

One good thing about the camcorder is I can twist the viewer while I hold the camera at odd angles, and see what I'm taking a picture of!

It is Gray Fog, Becky! I got the seed for it from bluespiral. I have it planted amongst some gourd vines (I kinda ran out of space!).

Just gotta love I. wrightii . . .

Here's a seed pod - nice and fat! I'll take better close-ups once I get my camera back from DH's work!

That vine of Kohkan is awesome, I haven't seen that degree of leaf variegation on my plants, very nice!

Here is one more from a few minutes ago . . . this is the first blue one I've seen out of the Japan mix packet. The other ones were purple! The bloom looks darker in person - a dark royal blue.

Gourd, All those are outstanding for sure. I love the kikyo!

Syrumani, Wow, a very, very nice blue kikyo!

Becky, that is the most beautiful variegation on the Koukan.

Jackie - That's cool that you can take still shots with your video camera. I am sure I have that option on mine, too, but have not tried to use it! Great, clear photos! Your blooms are just lovely! Pretty soon they will be blooming all over the place! :-) I look forward to more of your photos! And I know what you mean about the color on the lue kikyo ... very hard to capture in a photo what the true color looks like!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Very nice blooms Nichole. I envy everyone getting blooms already.
Becky, beautiful Kohkan, mine's up too with all yellow lvs or cotyledons. Thanx Joseph
Hope I get that beautiful variegation.

Nichole - The seedpods of your Ipomoea wrightii would be a nice addition to the PlantFiles entry here

Love one and all everybody!!!.....hopefully soon it will be warm enough here in PA for flowers!!!

I have lots started just waiting for it to warm up some more round here!

Especially like the way this one turned out A. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4888531

Jackie - I sooooo agree with you about that bloom! Lovely!

Of course, my only blooming MG is the NOID vine. This was a pretty bloom today.

Of the 20 seeds I planted, 17 germinated so far. Here is what they are and what they look like. I expect to see blooms within another week! (Fingers crossed!)

I planted a second Kohkan seed (smaller one) when the seed (not Kohkan) that I originally planted didn't germinate. Both Kohkans are growing on opposite ends of my arbor and I have a feeling this vine will be a nice climber!

And last group of seedling vines! Can't wait for flowers on these babies!

Antoinette - The Blue Jishi X Ten Ten cross leaves are rather interesting:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4936301

They are a much lighter color of green. I don't think it is a nutrient deficiency. I am really curious to see how this one turns out! Can't wait for blooms on it! It is screaming for attention ... Look at me! Look at me! LOL!

Beth - The Fuji no Monet is from one of your seeds!

Ron - I will take a better picture of it this afternoon, and get it added!

Becky - I'm looking forward to seeing all of your vines as they get bigger! I like the variegation on the Kohkan . . . do you know what color flowers it will have?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Hi Nichole! - The Kohkan blooms should look similar to this one...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/133781/
I sure hope so anyway! That is why I begged for seeds from PamSue! :-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Happy Mother's Day guys..

Becky, I hope you get something worthwhile.. i'm really afraid and doubt myself when it comes to these crosses. Several look so much alike and then I began to think that they probably didn't take. Then a little something is different.. so I get hope again..lol Great looking healthy babies there. What are those things (round white things that you are growing them in)..

The Blue Asagao Williow (has the willow leaf gene), the one you got there did not produce the leaves, but, you got the full size leaf, which will carry the gene for the next ones.. I sowed about 5 seeds and one was a willow leaf, which I lost about a month later this year.

All those Platycodon types, don't forget that they are naturally small vines, so they really test your patience and you may never grow them again..lol The flowers are gorgeous though. And they prefer dappled shade/sun. I have not grown any in full sun. The only ones that have had full sun are the self sowed purpureas and they seem to do great. When you come to think about it, they need a lot of attention.

Ronnie, thanks, so far this one has had a couple of flowers on it, the same. Will look forward to your photos also..

Karen, thanks.. I really enjoy being outside with all the flowers, I'm sure you are doing the same thing now.. but the weather is sometimes not cooperating here.

Melbourne, FL

Getting hot enough here that my Morning Glories are starting to suffer. Still putting out a few blooms.

gardenpom - Lovely bloom! I hear ya about the heat here! (As I am wet from sweat after working outside this morning!) Whew!

A - The donuts around each vine are actually a pale green. They are sprinkler head concrete donuts to protect sprinkler heads from weed whackers and lawnmowers. I stack them as each vine gets taller. I stack to a max. of 3 for each vine hoping that will deter the rodents coming around the MGs. The fruit rats chew my vines just to sharpen their teeth. But I am hoping that these concrete donuts will re-route them around my MG vines. So far, so good. Though I know that I may be regreting it later should the rodents kill some of the vines. (Fingers crossed that these donuts work.) If not, I will be putting chicken wire around them next. The rodents are big and can't squeeze through the holes on the CW. As I am typing this, I am thinking maybe I should do it now and not wait. I would be so mad if I come out one morning and find all my vines severed! ACK!!!

I love the collage you made. That`s cool! Karen

Only two blooms to speak of today . . .

As for the cypress vine, I'm growing the vines in separate locations, in an effort to not mix the colors.

Great pic gardenpom. Nichole, lovely blooms.

Melbourne, FL

Becky, how are your blooms reacting to the HOT weather lately? Guess I can't really complain, I did have blooms most of the winter and spring. Always hate to see them go, though.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I hope all the Mothers and Grandmothers here had a lovely day!

A - Thanks for telling me about the leaves on the Blue Asagao Willow. I was wondering about that. So ... they should have willow leaves on the next generation?

I am actually growing out 3 of your Blue Jishi X TenTen vines at this time. I don't know... it sure sounds like an interesting cross. I look forward to seeing the blooms! I love both of those cultivars!

I am wondering about the leaves on the mutant needle leaf vine too. (That seed was from MGJapan.)

Also thanks for warning me about how small the Platycodon Ensign vines are. Sheesh! I have never grown them before and was not even sure it was an MG sprouting! It's so tiny!!! I do have about 7 of them sprouting in a hanging basket as well. LOL! I just figured I have to try everything at least once, right?!!! LOL!

Karen - Glad you liked my collages. I wanted to show everyone what I was growing, but since there are no blooms on them, I didn't want to show each photo one by one. So decided a few collages would do the trick! :-)

Nichole - Your blooms look great! Love the first one! What is it?

gardenpom - My blooms wilt even in the shade because of how hot it has been. Heard y'all had fires up near you in Malabar. There is woods around my property and it worries me that a fire could start here and I wouldn't be home to know about it. I have 2 kids and 2 pets at home during the day before my dh or I get home from work. My son wouldn't know if a fire was burning until the roof burned up and caved in! LOL! We need rain!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Can you see the froggie? I think it likes the Kohkan vine, too! LOL!

Becky, amazing leaves on the Kohkan. Froggie is just a bonus. lol
