my favorite orange rhody!
Spring Blooms - Part 6
fragrance, if you are good Oakes might send it to you as a freebie! lol. That's what happened to me with my summer order from them last year. I was like, wth is 'Clothed in Glory'...I almost gave it away! Until I looked it up and saw the pic of it. It wasn't listed, I think, in their regular catalog last year, it was in their "Collector's Catalog." I haven't checked it out yet, but if there is a lot of increase, I can mark it well, and try to remember to divide a fan of it for you for the fall!
that orange rodie is really nice... i have never seen anything like it.... almost like an angel trumpet
Nice shots, Sara and rc!
YIPPPEE!!!! Thanks, Hemhostaholic! I'm sure I can find something you would like in return. Maybe a violet, datura or a white mum? Let me know.
Quote: "I am pleased to announce that my first bloom has come from a daff!!!"
Congratulations "Daffy Dawn"!!!
Yould would think that it's name would be something like that.... orange trumpet, angel trumpet, but no. It's name is Medusa!
Beautiful flowers and pics Victor, Sara and RC. Need more primulas here and that rhodo is ooolala gorgeous. Such wonderful color on the tulips Victor. I have mine surrounded by chicken wire right now to keep the Bambies away. Soon it will be safer since the leaves are coming out in the woods now. :)
geez rc, that is one flashy rhody! the flowers are so large, they look like lilies!
I guess that they do look like lilles, but the photo must be a little on the deceiving side sine they are not that large of a flower. their only about 4 inches long anb 2-3" wide. But what they lack in size, they make up for in quantity!!!
I always make the rounds of the gardens when I get home from work to see how things are doing. I am aware of the birds in and around the yard as I listen to their calls and singing. Well today I'm doing a bit of weeding and I was hearing a call of a bird that was unknown to me. Just about this time my wife came out and also heard this strange call. We were trying to guess what bird it was when I spotted it in a tree.
It was a grey parrot about half way up (25 feet) a tree. I put some seed on a rock hoping at least it might eat something. Parrots are not found wild in Mass. so I knew that it had to got away from somebody. I don't know how much these birds cost, but I figured somebody was out quite a bit of money. Well went inside and about 5 minutes later the door bell rang. I opened the door and there was a man and his son. He asked if he could put up a lost poster for his parrot that they had been looking for all day. I told him he didn't need the poster, the aforementioned bird was in the tree in my back yard.
Sure enough it was, "Jack" thier gray parrot. Well to make a long story short, after climbing to the edge of a branch that didn't look too safe he was able after 20 minutes to get the bird to come down and perch on his finger.
Father was happy...
Kids were happy...
Bird was happy...
Even I felt pretty good about the whole thing.
I didn't even mind that they tramped all over one of the gardens doing it.
Gee, I feel like I did a guest shot on animal planet.
Chuck
Awe, how nice Chuck, I would of felt the same way..except for the part about the garden being trampled. LOL
I loved all the pictures, but especially the one of your mom David_Paul! It was reaffirming about gardening being a life-long passion.
We can leave the doors open for a bit in the evening now and the bullfrog symphony is starting.
L
Yay for Chuck and "Jack"!!
Hey Victor do you plant anything around your JM's?
Nice story, Jack. Jen - in some places I do. Other ones are used as specimen plants. I like to pair them with plants that complement their color, leaf form and texture. For example, for more broad leaf ones that can take some sun - more palmate leaves instead of dissected, I like to pair with dwarf conifers. Other companions are other part shade plants.
it's shirley pretty
great story chuck! one you'll not forget that's for sure. Good luck with the bambi's ngram. Great tulips and pictures of them, as always Victor.
ohhhhhhh..... that it is! You can bet I wasn't going to get any closer to it than I had to to get the picture. I didn't intend to put that picture in here. We were doing repair work on one bridge (for hiking/biking trails) today when I look up and see that thing floating by. another couple minutes later there goes another one. I knew what it was from the get go. One of I bridges that was upstream had washed out, broken up, and was heading downstream in parts!!
Great ending for the family with the parrot. I bet they had a much better nights sleep thanks to you spotting the missing pet. I love happy endings.
More great tulip pics Victor, such nice soft colors.
RC you have some really pretty spring blooms out there too. Keep up the good work.
The sun is not up yet and I can hear the turkey, gobble gobble, is awake in between the soft sound of the rain. Spring, it's a wonderful thing. :)
I'm pretty sure of that! that's a good things though. We have the whole place to ourselves!!!!!
Yep, i agree with that here too! Good morning ngam! you've made it to the night ouwls club!
