lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

I have purchased a Scott's Lawn seed starting soil thinking I was getting soil to start tomatoes, etc....can I use it??? it is a mix of peat, sphagnum peat moss, a wetting agent & fertilizer...fertilizer is 8-3-2...I do not know how I didn't see it was for lawn....HELP....PLEASE....Deb

Deb, my understanding is that seed starting soil is soil-less like you mention, BUT has no fertilizer (which can burn young seedlings).

Thanks, Kiddoo, I pretty much thought that was the situation...darn, I hate to buy more soill!!! what do I buy? I used my soil mix I use for my succulents, hoya's, stapeliads, Schlumbergera & used cowpots for the first time this year & I'm having a devil of a time to get them to pop up & when they do I can't keep them watered right...I will never use those cow pots again....back to good old plastic next year....Deb

Deb, the bag will simply state 'seed starting' in some fashion, and almost brands are difficult to moisten. I put some in a bucket and moisten before putting into seed flats. Potting mix is too heavy.

Yup, I used Gardener's Gold last year & those little peat taps then potted into plastic after they sprouted and was very successful...that was my first year of ever having a garden, now this year I bought those cow pots from a co-op & I'm having a terrible time....thank you for the suggestions....Deb
