End of April Blooms

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I also found Teenybopper grew up more than out. The leaves are pretty succulent, and it doesn't need a terrarium. (The exception is, of course, if it's newly potted up and the root system hasn't developed yet. Then it might want a little extra humidity.) It might be good to wick it though, because tiny pots are hard to keep track of.

Nancy, what a pretty bloom. Those are my favorites that have that little extra 'whatever' in the middle of the bloom. I always wondered what Doo Wop really looked like and she is a looker!

(Zone 1)

I was just looking through some old articles and found this one: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/49/

It says by: Keyring (Marylyn_TX)

Great article! Keyring, did you write this? Or did Marylyn_TX write it, or was it a collaboration? Some really good info!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

good going, Lin. Great information to know and I love her baby seedlings.
You are able to find anything on Dave's.

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Hi Lin - that was put together by Marilyn (I guess) based on a thread in this forum. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/684945/
They asked me to write an article based on that thread but I couldn't, so I said that if someone else would like to package the info, they were welcome to do so.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Very nice information. I will print it to put in a file later... The pictures are very nice... I made grids today after work.. I did not have the proper bottoms but I used what I had and they did pretty good... A few of the wicks are short and so I raised the levels of water higher but will do new wicks this weekend.... I could not put it together in my head then the light bulb went off... about time...LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan, I had trouble finding anything but #36 twine (on the spool) at Walmart but Academy, a sports store and fishing store had #48. Good luck with your new wicking. It is so much easier.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Susan..you will love wicking once you get the hang of it...I am switching slowly over to wicking everything...I like it because it is so much less work when it comes to watering and I am all for anything to make that easier...lol..I lose way too many plants passing them over and missing them when I water....I always seem to miss a few

South, TX

I have all of my plants wicked. I use the wicks from Ken's. I love having them all CUT for me, ha. They work well for me. Wicking is just the best for taking vacations and soon, I will have surgery and I will fill them all up and they will do fine until I can care for them again. I do check them because once in a while I take the wick out for a day or water more if dry. That is rare though.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

That is why I am doing this as I miss a few when I water... This will be much easier once I get the hang of it... I am going to show you some pictures no laughing.. Also a few pictures of my plants and a few blooms... Not the greatest of pictures but trying.... I had the grid and could not like I said put it together on how to do it then after spending Sunday and Monday morning putting wicks and then them all on rocks they still were to dry... So when the light went off I went looking for the grid I had got at Lowes..Gail told me to look there a month or so ago... So thats my story and I'm sticking to it...

Susan

Wow, Susan ... You are really becoming a pro here! Everything looks so healthy and pretty.

Great job! I could take lessons!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Lin,
Thank you so much... I am no pro and I get frustrated allot but at times like today when it clicked it was like GREAT... I still have to go back and do longer wicks and wick the ones on rocks but I am getting there... Lin do you see the picture with the plants in flower pots? The one if you are looking at it to the left in a purple pot with the heart that is the tiny baby you sent me so long ago... When I HATED AV's.....LOLOLOL Those have grown and bloomed so well for me... That is why I am here trying to learn streps and chiritas... I love them now... Everyone said I would get the bug and I have..... So thanks once again....
hugs,
Susan

(Zone 1)

You are very welcome! I can definitely see the Gessie Bug has bitten you! ^_^ You've done a great job with your stands and your plants! Is that AV I gave you the one with the pink variegated leaves? Mine had not bloomed in forever!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan, you have learned faster than anyone I know on Daves about growing!! I am so impressed I am speechless. Congratulations on a fantastic job with those grids and your plants look so healthy!! Doing the biggest happy dance (as Kim would say.......or whoever started) for you.

Wow is all I can say. Remember when you started? I simply will never have a grid ordered again!!! If you can cut them that well, so can I!! You really inspire us all.

Kim, remember back in January when you sent me those strep leaves? Look what I found tonight!! Very excited and now I want more white ones. This is your Maasen's White baby. This is the first of what you sent that is blooming.

I went to Lowe's Gail and bought the grid there for 15.00 I still have enough to make at least two more... They were so easy to cut I could have used regular scissors but used garden ones instead... now made a mess on my rug but was very easy.... I went out and got the rocks and little glass holders then did not like it... Came home today and said find it Susan... so I did and tried to make them.. Now the smaller bottoms that are not as tall would be better but this will do for now... Anyone wanting to know the one is a cake top, that I had gotten for 3.00 at a store long ago.... Lin yes that is the pink one... It has bloomed many times for me already.... Well we will all have to do the happy dance as if not for all of you where would I be??? Not growing thats for sure...LOL
Hugs,
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You really have inspired me to never order a little grid for 4.00 each ever again..........I love those aluminum pans and clear tops..............I get them at the dollar store here.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow, Susan.......you are becoming a pro! How inspiring! I'm SO proud of you! Congratulations!
Gail, would you look at that baby Maasen's White! How do you do it? Seems like I sent you that leaf not too long ago and already you have a bloomin' baby! Amazing!
What a fantastic group of growers we have here and even more touching than that, what an amazing "family" we have :) I just LOVE the generosity, caring, and sharing that goes on in this garden.
It has reached a point where this is one of the only forums that I even post to on Dave's anymore. I am ALMOST to the point where I have cleaned my house out to the point of only growing gessies *lol* A couple more boxes of hoyas to go and I'll be free *lol*
I am keeping a couple "non gessies" that have special meaning to me such as my Gram's Easter Cactus, the Deutsche Kaiserin, Zora the adenium, Hoya Multiflora, Firefern Oxalis, Oxalis Triangularis, 2 Walking Iris and my Bilbergia Nutans but other than those, I'm hoping to be rid of everything else not from the gessie family :)
I want to thank everyone who has opened their hearts and homes and given my hoyas a good place to grow. I LOVE knowing that they are being cared for and enjoyed :)

You are all the BEST and truly brighten my every day :)

XO

Hmmmm everyone must still be sleeping this morning :)
Being 4/30 and this thread getting so long, maybe we can start a new one for May.
I thought I would just show you all the "propagation station" here in Maine *lol*
Take a look at all those domes *lol* Under all the domes are babies that are just growing with each passing day and will be ready to go into boxes to all of you this fall :)

Was starting to run out of room on the "propagation station" and don't you just know.....hubby and I went to my FAVORITE junk store called Marden's here in Maine and low and behold.......look what they had for $9.99!!!

Picked one up and then the following week BEGGED hubby to go back with me to get one more "just in case" *lol*

Right now the extra is under the bed but I just KNOW it's going to be set up at some point *lol*

Just another lovely shot of Kazu because she is so special to me. Nancy shared her with me when I first found you ladies and I just love her so much!

The ironic thing is, she had a sucker and I rooted a chirita sucker for the first time and the sucker is going back to Nancy so she can still have a piece of the momma :) Isn't that just SO touching? Really is special to me that's for sure!

Here's an update on the Chirita babies. They are growing with each passing day :) I had 3 yesterday that "graduated" to 3 oz. cups :) I am SO proud of them when they "graduate"

And here are the graduates :)
Come fall these will be nice and strong and ready for their trips to various states :)

I'm tickled that these 4 already have "adoptee" names on them :) They are looking forward to their travels but will "hang out" with their siblings until they get a little stronger :)

KIm, your setup is Amazing! Wow! Look at all those Chirita babies! So cute ... and Congratulations on the graduates, you have every right to be a proud mom! Great job!

Wow, those mini greenhouses were a great buy! I have heard people talk about that store, wish we had one down our way. I love "junk" stores!

Keep up the good work with all that propagating you are doing! You might just have so many babies come fall that you will have to buy a $5.00 classified ad here on DG!! Make some money and then you can start all over again this coming winter for next year! LOL. I love to plant seeds and leaves but just don't have the patience to do it on the scale that some of y'all do .... I'm lucky if I can do one small tray of seeds and remember where I put them! LOL.

(Zone 1)

^_^ hee hee ... I have one large stand in my bedroom. One old bakers rack rigged with lights in the guest room and one large stand in the study. Man, I would love to have large windows like you have there in your bedroom, with all that nice bright light ... perfect for plants!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just lost my post...................all about Kim's growing and the classified ads.......makes me so mad............when I lose a complete post with a picture..........

Am in a hurry but took some pics last night to play with cropping a pic.............will post a few and Kim.......you know i never remember the names.......well, maybe a few.......
