Are those the Strep's that we planted ? I hope not mine are just getting babies,
I think that as far as wicking goes if this is what you mean but someone might or will have better if I am saying this wrong, I put mine in the hole and bring part way up the side than some dirt and then I let go put the plant in add dirt. That is how I do it , It could be wrong but its been working the stones are for Humidity.

This is the time that most people must be at Church.
When you buy outside plants in packs of 4 or 6 I keep the containers like pansy(SP) strawberryplants that don't grow

Okay My cookies are done now

Can if someone is around answer this for me... I think the answer is yes so I am going to do it anyway but do we wick cuttings that have not rooted yet?
thanks,
susan

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Hi Susan, not sure if I've got your questions right... but anyway:

size of the pot - let the rootball be your guide. Unpot, shake off some of the soil, and then put it in a pot that is a bit bigger than the mass of roots.

AV babies - split them up if each baby rosette can be relatively easily pulled apart from the mass. Be sure to treat them like leaves (as in comfortable humidity) until they settle into new pots.

Wicking cuttings - some people do wick unrooted cuttings with good success.

I think I need cookies....

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

lol Thank you so much.... I am afraid to split the bigger streps that grew from leaf in a solo cup... they are blooming... but something has to be done...LOL
thank you once again as I don't always type what my brain is telling it...
Susan

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

oooh streps. I treat them the same way. The only thing is that I make sure not to pot the streps deeper than they were, unlike AVs which I routinely pot deep. If you don't want to split them now but they are getting root bound, why not just pot up for the time being?

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi,
I have repotting all of my things and putting wicks in them... I have not gotten to the bigger strep babies... Ok I am a chicken...LOL I may do them tomorrow as I still have about 10 more streps to take out of cups and put in little pots... Thank you so much for all your help .... I don't mean to sound rude but what is your name? Are you going to the Va/DC swap at the end of May? It is Becky who is having .... If so hope to get to meet you.
Hugs,
Susan

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I'm undecided about the swap, mostly because I only have one small balcony so plant space is ultra limited. Also have a loooong list of plant activities for the next 6 weeks or so. Then again, I might be tempted by the hellebore in the coop... lol.

Will be sending you dmail in a mo.

Ki (yeah, it's pronounced "key")

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you Ki for all your info... My friend and I are going to the swap as I have gone to one other and it was at Harts place and all of the people were just so nice to be around....
I am done for the day with repotting and have a few more to do and also wick but that can wait until tomorrow... my neck hurts from bending...LOL
Will be waiting for dmail...LOL
Susan

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Ki
I have dealt with you when I first started do AV and I got some plants from you I had mailed you money cause I felt bad I don't remember the plants that I got from you But I do have 1 that I now you sent me it was a Chirita and I still have it. Susan sounds like your all done with your baby AV and strep separating and potting up. But in the future if you want to check out some step by step picture instructions here is a great link. http://www.robsviolet.com/lessons.htm

Just go to which ever type of plant you are trying to do something with and see how they do it. This link has helped me a lot. Along with all the great advice and instructions we get here on DG from the pros! ^_^

Raingazer sent me some strep leaves last fall and I have a couple of first blooms up! I am so pleased!!

Here is Party Boy

Brenda,
That is beautiful.. Thank you for the link... I use to have a few url in my favorites but this is a new computer and I did not have it so THANKS... Rain just sent me allot of begonia's and one chocolate valore... I am hoping I can root it.. I left the begonias over my sisters house. I planted them there. I will get over there again and get them just not this week.
Do you have allot of plants Brenda? I am getting there I hope...LOL The one you just posted I have one very much like that... It has a red throat... Your picture is so clear... We have a new camera and I am still trying to get a close up as good as yours.
Thanks again for the link.

Brenda,
That Kitten Face will be blooming it's little head off before too long. I got mine from Amy also and it's always got at least 10 or more flowers in bloom. Not bad for a plant it's size I think.

Susan I hate it when I switch computers and don't have all the links I'm used to! My camera is pretty basic but I put the pictures on the computer and tweak them a bit to center them or blow them up some with a photo program.

I started out just over a year ago with a few AV leaves and now my house is full (too full according to my husband LOL) of gessies of several kinds!! ^_^ The trading here on DG has been awesome in broadening the types of gessie's that I have.

Right now what I am enjoying the most is growing the streps from leaves and seeing my first blooms on these young plants! It is so much fun, as I'm sure you are finding too!!

That is so clear and pretty... Mine tend to grow this really long leaf and then get littler ones and now they are trying to bloom... I can't wait to see there color as most of what I have is purple....
Hugs,
susan

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Keep them coming... They are beautiful... I have to put Paint shop pro on here... I resize them but that is about it... I hate that this computer does not have "word" on it... I will have to buy one I seen on the net that costs nothing like the real word...

These are being uploaded with no tweaking going on..............just wanted Jan and Bonnie to see the babies that Jan sent me and what they look like now..........this isn't all of them but these are the big ones............had to stick my camera in the shelf and guess where to aim it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love streps that are either all white or mainly white.............I am still looking for Pegasus...............

I am like Brenda!!! What would we do without trading????? I whine and hate to pack a box but I sure let to get them so I just pack away with no complaining!!!!
DG is the best for trading gesneriads........and everything else.

Here goes Jan............where are the blooms my dear.........only sinningia 1503 has bloomed.

Mulletman your Kitten Face looks like a prize winning entry in a show! Great picture! Looks like Kitten Face is one of the compact growers, I hadn't researched her but I'm happy to see that!

Susan I agree about the new computers not having the full programs, like Word, that they used to! I'll look forward to seeing your purple blooming strep babies!

Gail I love the leaves in that second picture you posted!! They look like velvet and the veining is so pretty. Blooms will be a bonus on that one!

I can't remember who sent me a leaf of Bristol's Anteater, I think it was in my fall gessie swap box?? But here's the first bloom. It opened up this morning!

I am tired and I am not getting up to take pictures..LOLOL I am sitting looking at yours... I will try tomorrow to take a few new ones...
I don't think Brenda means she changes the colors or anything by tweaking... She crops and centers to make them neat looking...
I don't think it is fair that they sell us computers then take things away... but hey what am I going to do..
Hugs,
Susan

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Yep, just centering things and making sure not to show unmade beds etc in the back ground. LOL

I need to go water some plants so last picture from me tonight.

This is Pajama Party, a fuchsia and white fantasy that I bought last fall and it is finally blooming now.

wow, I leave fir the weekend and there are all kinds of posts. I really missed a lot. Thanks Gessie for offering me leaves, My DD and I are going to get some perlite and some vermiculite for when I get the leaves that I purchased. I lost my job as I was driving home from work on Friday. I that don't have internet at home. I am using my computer that I leant DD. I am at her house now.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Brenda, I love Pajama Party but that purple new Bristol's Anteater is just a magnificent bloom. All the purple streps are pretty.

Wildskygal, I am soooooooo sorry you lost your job and have to visit your daughter to get online. Please let us hear from you.

Mulletman, that strep could win best in its' class at a show!

(Zone 1)

Wow! I'm loving all these beautiful blooms!

I had a real long post typed out and lost it ... ARRGH! I don't understand computers enough to know why that happens when I go to another screen and then back to the one I'm responding to! Computers!?#@$%

Brenda, PJ Party is really pretty! And, with that name I think it would have been perfectly appropriate to show an unmade bed!^_^

Susan: Here's another site with step by step instructions for wicking a plant: http://www.rachelsreflections.com/wicking.htm I know Rachel passed away a few months ago but her site is still up and has some wonderful information.
