Hydrogen peroxide 35% food grade

New Iberia, LA

I read an article the other day about the use of hydrogen peroxide as an anti bacterial and fungal foliage spray. It seems hard to believe that something that simple could work but the article stated that it was very effective. I know from experience that it does work when added to hydroponics’ nutrient solutions but as a plant spray I am spectacle. What are you thoughts?

I've never tried it to fight bacteria or fungus on my plants leaves but I've seen several people on DG recommend it to get rid of fungus on the soil surface of potted plants. I ran a search and found an interesting site that you might want to look at. Maybe you could try it out on a small portion of one of your plants and see what happens.

I read the article in the book “Great Garden Shortcuts” (Rodale Press) by Joan Benjamin. You mix 1 tablespoon of 35% hydrogen peroxide to one gallon of water, spray once a week during dry weather and every few days when it’s wet.

The site that you linked did give me pause when I saw that it could be used as a weed killer but at 10% solution it probably would kill most plants. The cost is about $1 per ounce in 16 ounce bottles and $46 per gallon +shipping.
Thanks for the link.

You're very welcome. I'd hate to see anyone kill their garden!! Does sound like if you use it mixed properly, it might be a good idea. I might try a little on the bottom of one of my rose bushes that's especially prone to black spot.

To prevent black spot on my roses I take a spray bottle and put half skim milk and half water, then spray all over my roses in the morning. It works GREAT, I had NO issues with black spot last year by using this method.

I got the idea off of HGTV web sight.

I'm currently using it as a spray for my plants and it seems to be working just fine. they're healthy, at any rate, lol. i did have a soil fungus on my tomatoes earlier in the season, and that seemed to clear it right up.
