Bean poles

Black Creek, WI

What are you using for your bean poles? I am using sticks that fell off my trees, and IF I run out I will use sunflowers or corn that is already growing in my garden.

Sounds like a plan. I usually string mine to overhead wires. If I feel real energetic, I have a thicket of Chinese privet in the retention pond, where I can cut bean poles to my hearts content. My heart is content with a very few these days. When I was a teenager, use to cut them by the thousands (birch and alder) in the creek bottoms back in Virginia.

One year I planted my beans in with the corn, but I don't think they produced as many beans. Two years ago I bought 100 bambo sticks at the local fruit and veggie stand who also sells seeds and garden plants. Those seen to work well for us. Those seem to be plentiful in TN

You just answered the question that I asked over on the hydroponics forum that did not get answered. I am growing pole beans 4 per Dutch bucket, training them to grow up bailing twine. It’s working really well for me. You can see my set up over on that forum.

Japanese beetles reached our area about 4 years ago, and I've switched over to bush beans. The beetles don't hardly bother anything that's close to the ground, but they sure like bean plants over 3' high.

It seems odd, but I think J.B.'s are so clumsy they have a hard time taking off from near the ground. They need to drop a couple of feet to get airborne, so they don't land on plants that are too low for them.

THey are kinda like those large birds that need a a running start LOL
I was thinking of using the T-pee with three sticks or branches from some trees we cut down.
But i was wondering if they might fly away with our winds here in OH
or how i m going to whack the branches in the ground with out breaking them.

Hi,
I got seeds for bush beans hoping that would eliminate the need for poles.
I sure hope this works.
Has anyone tried those before?
Thanks,
Elaine

Im going to try bush beans too this yr also
the beans i am going to spray with garlic i got from another Dger recipe. Some vegs i spray like eggplants and beans but not others. since it is natural but also kills good bugs to .I use it only on certain things .
I have some left over 2x4 and thought of using 9 guage wire coiled around them. ?
my t-pee's feel over in the wind LOL :)
