Rabbits eating my plants during the winter....Ahhhhh...

Olathe, KS

Over the past 2 winters rabbits have been devouring bushes and plants in my garden. This past winter they ate 6 clematis, 2 rose bushes, 3 weigelia's, 3 spirea; all down to a nub. They also took a good chunk out of 3 cranberry viburnum and ate everything they could reach on 3 burning bushes. I won't even metion the perennials they have dined on this spring. Although they did this for the first time last winter, I attributed it to the large amount of ice we had. Guess I was wrong. What do I do! This is getting expensive to replace. BTW - in case you were wondering, the clematis were not in the group that needs hard pruning.

Hello KCPatty,
Have you tried spraying your plants with anything? I live out in the woods and have tons of rabbits.I use liquid fence. It was reccomended to me when I started gardening 3 years ago and works really well. Its for deer and rabbits.I still have some plants getting nibbled on now and then but nothing like you described.Ive never lost anything completely.Good Luck!

Plant marigolds. I read in a gardening newsletter that rabbits dislike marigolds and won't go near them. It's worth a try.
