I need advice on best Lights to use in growing seeds

Duncan, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi all, A friend of mine is giving me Adenium & Pachypodium seeds & need advice on what type of grow light to buy that I can use to grow my seeds with that is not expensive, money is tight. I am going to buy the light this Friday..
Also I need it to fit my fish tank light hood, do they make them that size? My fish tank is around 24 gallons, it's more tall than long and it's empty, no fish. I am going to put my seed pots in it (with out the top on) with just the light hood on top. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you all for your help.

Walmart carries inexpensive full spectrum (I think they are called gro lux).......anyway the bulbs used for aquarium are the same as what we use on gro light stands. I am positive they make them that size. I just don't know if that will be enough light for seeds.........maybe it will if you can find a warm spot.

Someone else will come along and help you, too.........you will also need to dome that aquarium for seeds with something as easy as saran wrap................
Good luck

I've always used plain old fluorescent lights and they work fine, no need to buy expensive grow lights or anything. But I think the lights they sell for the fish would work fine too if that's the only kind that will fit. The trick with the lights is to keep them no more than a couple inches above the tops of the seedlings, otherwise they won't do nearly as much good, so you may need to raise your pots/flats up with something to get them close enough to the lights.

Thank you both, I am going to be putting plastic on top of them to make a dome and using an electric heating matt under them .Yes I do plan on some how raising the bed so they are close to the light just haven't fiqure out how to do that just yet. Any cheap ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Just take kitchen glasses or anything to put in the aquarium............and put a tray or something to hold the containers of seeds up higher closer to the light.
