Im curious if its a waste of money? or can possibley do any damage?
I have never tried root stimulants , and the fungus part kinda scares me. but my soils (and plants) are in need of help. a local store has it for 6 bux.
its called LMB: sure start root stimulant, here is a website to the manufacturer: http://www.surestartinc.com/lmb.html
has anyone heard of or tried LMB sure start root stimulant?
I don't think it'll do damage, just like there are good and bad insects, there are also good and bad microorganisms. Healthy soil will have lots of the beneficial sort. I don't have any personal experience with the product so I can't vouch for its efficacy, but it shouldn't damage your plants.
I never heard of it either, but I dont ever use rooting stimulants on plants, but I use it when I am preparing cuttings, then it is useful to stop any fungus setting into the cut part of the stems while they make good roots, when I use this, I dip the cut tip of the cuttings into it, then shake off any excess as too much can also do damage, so read the instructions with care, used properly, I cant see it doing any damage either, so good luck, let us know how it goes. WeeNel.
Are you maybe thinking of rooting hormone instead? Root stimulators are to help out plants that already have roots, they are supposed to help with transplant shock and help things get bigger stronger roots. But they won't help cuttings form roots in the first place the way rooting hormones do.
Yes you are right Ecrane, I have never heard of the other stuff to help boost the roots of growing plants, we may have this here but I am inclined to go along the way of roots will do well anyway if you prepare the soil first before you plant them, but being unaccustomed to the rooting stimulant, I really cant give any opinion, but I had wondered or wanted to make sure the questioner wasn't like me, confused by one or the other, thanks Ecrane, you have made a very valid point about the difference between my thoughts and what other stimulants are available to the market, have a good garden day, WeeNel.
I bet you have them there, the most common one here is called Super Thrive but I imagine you probably have different brands. Most of them talk about having vitamins and things in them. I honestly don't know if they work or not, some people swear by them for preventing transplant shock but I hardly ever remember to use them so couldn't tell you whether they do anything or not! That reminds me I should go get some Superthrive and use it, I've just planted a whole bunch of things over the last couple days so it would be a good test!
I also have very poor soil. While I haven't used the particular product you mention, I've used similar products. Our ground was bulldozed down about 20 feet to eliminate two ridges so we could build our house so I had no top soil. At first, I only added compost and peat and my trees seemed to struggle. I started using SuperThrive and it really made a big difference. I went back and treated the already planted trees and it really helped them a lot. If your soil is poor, I'd recommend you use it.
You probably right Ecrane, and if I search hard enough, I will find it, I know there is stuff that the commercial growers use but it's not available to the armature gardeners,
you are so lucky to have already started to plant stuff out in the garden, I have had to pot my summer bulbs up to keep them in the greenhouse till the weather improves and the soil warms up a bit, the bulbs were starting to get green shoots on them so couldn't wait any longer for better days, but they will be fine and I can then transplant them when I can.
The good thing about being on this site is all the varying ideas, methods and different reports we can get from the products used, so it's great to hear from folks who heve actually tried and tested the products, sure beats all the fancy adverts and can save people from spending money on stuff that dont work, especially as gardening is getting to be a costly hobby for some people. enjoy your gardening season Ecrane, I know you will have great success. WeeNel.
