What's blooming in April IV

(Zone 1)

Dimmer/Kim: Plants are often, VERY often mis-labeled at the stores! Your plant is definitely not Hoya bella but looks to be Hoya carnosa rubra.

Nancy, you know I'll post bella's blooms when they open! I can hardly wait! So you're going to send some bella to Lin? I was going to offer, but since your plant is bigger, you could probably send her more than I could. I don't mind a bit though. ^_^

Gail, I wonder if your bella stems don't stand up like mine do because they're longer and heavier? Some of these are starting to flop over, so that might be what it is.

Kim, I think that is the carnosa like Lin and Kim said, too. That's the bad thing about stores, you really can't trust that their tag has the correct name. Exotic Angel is bad about having the wrong names on them, and most of the employees at Home Depot and Lowe's simply don't know they're wrong. It's a beauty, whatever you call it, though! ^_^

The furry one is a Columnea, and should root quite easily. You can lay it on the soil, or the way I do it is to strip the bottom couple sets of leaves and poke the cutting right down in the potting mix. Usually they root in no time. I would think they'd root in water, but I rarely root anything in water, so I really don't know.

I am back with some pictures up closer. I still can't figure out my camera but have a call into the computer tech as to why the automatic isn't having that temporary second lasting flash (for lack of a better word) when it is focusing...........it is not focusing on automatic some of the time.

This is a lipstick and you are right, lin.............not a very pretty bloom for sure

I am looking for the new thread, the names of the leaves that I have coming are "Heritage Frolic," "Alchemy Yellow Star," "Intrigue," "Irish Sprite."Silverglade Jingle," "Sunkissed Rose," and 5 varigated leaves (unknown) I have never sent for leaves before, so this is a big adventure for me. I hope they ship okay. I am quite excited. I certainly like that Midnight Tease phototoo; Very crisp. I have a camera but lost the cord to the computer for it. I also have several types of seeds that will be going in the yard once I get them started. Talk about jumping in with both feet!

Great going, wildskygal!!! Who did you order your leaves from........I am always curious because I order so many leaves. When I get my leaves in the mail I always soak them in their little individual packets with a little water for about 5 or 10 minutes just to hydrate them...............and then stick them in perlite and vermiculite (half and half) and dome them.................then just wait patiently until they root (about 2 or 3 weeks). Then you can take the dome off and water from underneath the pots with a little bit of fertilizer and you will 'make' lots of babies.

Keep us informed.

and, it's getting so long that there will probably be a new one soon!

I order from Ebay-someone called "catwomen8" she doesn't have anything else listed. Someone named Drew has some really pretty stuff coming up but it is sort of pricey for me. I am going to be in trouble for spending so much as it is! LOL Especially when I am going to have to take over more windows in the house and can you use small stryofoam cups to proprigate the leaves in? I was thinking that way I could poke holes in the bottom later and set them in shallow dishes. What does everyone else do for dishes or do you all buy them?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The best small cups are the 3 ounce solo cups that you use for a bathroom dispenser. (when you brush your teeth) You can find them at any grocery store.
Be sure to cut or poke holes in the bottom for good drainage. I just use scissors and take a cut on the bottom 2 sides. If you don't have a dome of some kind (from a bakery, etc) you can also use zip lock bags........

Your Welcome.

I bought my first AV leaves and AV plants from GardenAngel on eBay and I have been very happy in the last year with everything that I got from her.

All the recent AV pictures I have posted about with growing them only in natural light were from the leaves I bought from GardenAngel!

Susan do you remember the begonia cuttings you sent me last fall?? You sent four nice canes of different begonias and I put them together in a vase of water and they bloomed again and again this winter! They have done so well they are still just in water but I'll get them planted this spring! Just saying thanks for the enjoyment of those blooms this past winter!
