Wow Susan..Looks like you were Power Shopping!! So Cool!!That is a great selection..Can't wait to see them!!
Nice choices Susan!
You know- Salmon Sunset is one I've been determined I was going to get, then I place an order yesterday and guess what I didn't order? Salmon Sunset! dangit! Oh, well. I kinda got hooked on one called Fish Lips...can you imagine??!! LOL
^_^ ... Love that name Fish Lips! Is it a Violet or a Strep??
I haven't had a chance to look up any of those Gail sent me yet ... maybe I will go do that now.
Its a gorgeous strep Lin...Oh Fish Lips is soo pretty Diane..I saw it on rob's when I was window shopping the other night..

Susan, that is such a great list. May I ask who you ordered from? Please don't tell me ebay...........thanks
Oh Diane, it is beautiful! I have learned fragrance with hoyas is only detectable in the evening and at night. I think I remember AlohaHoya or someone on the hoya forum saying it had to do with attracting the pollinators ... so I'm assuming whatever critters pollinate hoyas are only active late in the day and at night.
I so want to put H. bella on my wish list but I have heard that it's a difficult one to grow.
That is a nice Multiflora! I love mine that I got from Kimskreations. It's blasted buds twice since I've had it and is getting ready to bloom again so I am hoping I get to see the blooms this time! My Multiflora did not do well at all the first two months ... leaves turning yellow and real wilty, it was just not a happy hoya. Then I read that this one really loves water and someone said they put theirs in one of the self watering AV pots. I had an extra one of those two part ceramic AV pots so I put it in there and man did it perk up over night! It is looking really good so I hope the buds stay on this time!
I have H. Imperalis and put it in one of those self watering pots too and it's looking fantastic and putting on new growth!
I had a very large full pot of bella, but it's now down to a few straggly stems. They are prone to spider mite for me here, but you may not have that problem with your humidity. Likes more water than most Hoyas. But I'm thinking if you can do the multiflora you could do the bella. Just my opinion. I have both of those Hoyas in the hanging baskets I usually get from Wal-Mart that claim to be self-watering. I think that is the only reason the multiflora made it through the winter in my sunroom since I don't water in there very often.
I didn't realize the imperialis was the same way...I just recently got a very small start from ebay so haven't had a chance to experiment with it yet.
I bought two of those type hanging baskets last summer and put a hemigraphis/red flame ivy in one and I can't remember what is in the other ... they both have not done well at all. I remember it said to first water thoroughly from the top of the soil and thereafter only put water in the little opening in the side on the bottom. My plants are not happy in them ... maybe because they get watered with the hose with everything else on the deck and it's too much water?
I don't know for sure that the Imperialis is one that requires a lot of water but it sure has done well for me since I sat it down into that self watering AV pot! I don't know how it would do in one of those baskets - I'd be afraid there would be too much water sitting around the roots.
I never use the place on the side to water- I still just water from the top. But then I'm an under-waterer so that might be the difference too! They have a little reserve for 'slim' times LOL
Yup I used ebay as this one lady has been very good to me and sends nice things... Ask both Kim... Kim(dimmer) was here when the others arrived and we had a day of planting... We had a ball.. I wanted some that were not purple...LOL So now I have some that are not purple...
Diane, let these get bigger and I will gladly share... I am a giver.. :-) I think you can ask most here that I am... There was a time I said I would share with one lady(Diane) and it did not come to be so I sent her a plant instead and I will send leaves at another time...
Can I ask a question... Are streps suppose to get really long leaves and you let them stay that way? like in a pot with those beautiful leaves hanging over the sides? I live in hope for that ...
Ok bad time of night for me as I can't sleep but must as I have work tomorrow....
May be back...
Susan
Susan, which lady is it?
I get Kim to bid for me on ebay sometimes and then pay her with paypal.
Remember that one leaf of a strep can only bloom about 7 times. Then it is time to divide the plant or get rid of the big leaves???????? Anybody know more than I do, say so.
Lin, can you tell me where to go to look and see what Bella looks like?
I think those are all Hoyas, Gail. I've got Bella. I'll go take a picture for you.
Sally: Midnight Tease is Gorgeous! You grow some nice Violets! Perfect shape, lovely blooms. What kind of camera do you use? Your photo's are just awesome!
Nice Hoya's Gail! That first one sorta looks like a Lipstick plant but it is real hard to tell sometimes. Some Lipsticks and Hoyas look so much alike! Pic's #2 & #3 are definitely hoya. I especially love the looks of that third one with those longer leaves! I read somewhere that if you break a stem the hoya will have sap but lipstick doesn't. I have a couple of plants that are the Exotic Angel and they were labeled as hoya but I'm still not so sure ... haven't bloomed yet and there is no sap when you pinch the stem. They may very well be Aeschynanthus.
Ooooh ... I must find a Hoya bella! That is such a nice looking plant Amy! How wonderful, you are gonna have blooms! You must post a picture when those flowers do open ... and tell us how wonderful it smells! I have H. lacunosa hanging in my kitchen window and every evening and during the night it smells so good!
Gail: Here's the PF link for Hoya bella: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53934/
and variegata here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/73760/
Your second picture resembles ds-70 ... can you post a close up photo?
Your third pic, the one with the long leaves could be H. kentiana which has long narrow leaves: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57676/ or mini belle has longish leaves too: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/73806/
There's another one that has long slender leaves too but I for the life of me can't think of the name right now. There are probably many that have foliage resembling that one. Whatever it is ...it is a great looking hoya!
I've got a few pictures to post, but this thread is getting too long for those on dial up. I started to make a new thread, but saw that dispatcher1 has "anything blooming?? IV" up, so I'm moving there. ^_^ http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/811118/
Diane..your multiflora is HUGE..biggest I have ever seen..wonderful..
Sally I am in Love with that Midnight Tease..beautiful!!
Susan..yes a giver you are..and you grow some wonderful plants..If you let them some streps will get leaves over a foot long..LOL..I always am trimming the leaves back..makes them not take up quite so much room on the stands and doesnt seem to affect the blooms a bit : )
Amy I can't wait to see that bella bloom..still can't believe how nicely those cuttings grew for you..already blooms!! Green Thumb Amy is what we should call you!
Lin..don't go buying a bella...I have some for you : )
Gail those hoya and lipstick baskets are so big! Is there anything you can't grow well????..LOL...Lucky gal.!!
I forgot to say to Sally that you av is indeed beautiful!! Thanks for sharing
I am going outside to take some close up pics of the hanging basket leaves so you all can maybe help me..............
My plans change everyday! Now I am not going to Austin!!!!!!
Thanks Lin for the sites
Raingazer ........wow that bella is big......I don't think I have stand up stems like you do................
will go to the new thread Rain or someone has started when I come back........with more pics
Gail you need Kim.....screations to come tell you if that first one is a lipstick, or columnea etc, she is a pro with those types of plants!
The second plant you posted this morning is a hoya DS 70 and the third one is Hoya Kentinnia, I'm off on my spelling with that one and don't want to go look it up....Kim will know that one too!
I'm going to go look for your others now....
~Brenda
I believe the first picture to be Aeschynatanthus Micranthus Gail :)
The other 2 have already been ID for you as Hoyas DS-70 and Kentiana and those would have been my 2 guesses also :)
Exotic Angel carries Aeschynatanthus Micranthus alot and it looks exactly like mine. It's a species and the flowers aren't really spectacular in any way but it's a good grower :)
XO
Kim
Gail: I found these photo'a of: Aechynanthus micranthus: http://www.gesneriads.ca/aeschy73.htm
http://www.gesneriads.ca/aeschy99.htm
http://www.gesneriads.ca/aeschy100.htm
Dimmer/Kim: I don't think your plant is Hoya bella ... I think it is Hoya carnosa rubra "Krimson Princess":
http://www.gesneriads.ca/aeschy100.htm
sorry ... wrong link for Hoya carnosa rubra. Try this: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57702/
I have this plant and love it ... I love any plant with the variegated colors in the foliage!

Kim,
Please forgive my correction here but I believe what you are calling a variegated Bella is actually a Hoya Carnosa instead.
Here is a variegated Bella, notice the smaller, less waxy leaves.
Sorry....just want to make sure we keep the right names with the right plants :)
