Quoting:
Well I thought these were the scouts? I thought they were on their way up to Canada? I dunno. Pelle? Resin?? Anyone??

Only reliable way to tell is if they're wearing a Scout badge.

;-)

Hee.

LOL Resin!!

I do not know about the rest of the country but here in louisiana we have the hummers all year. I have two males and at least three females who winter here and in the spring it gets really crazy. There is a plantation just south of me a ways that hosts a hummingbird festival in early june i believe.

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

I think I have had the same hummer for over a month now. And resin...he is not wearing a badge. so is he staying?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

hee hee Frank. Have the females showed up yet? Maybe that's the key.

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

No hummers yet but just got hit with what looked like a June bug. This is not right.

Maybe it's a scout!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL… scout june bug.

I transplanted something yesterday and saw a june bug in the dirt. I thought the same thing. Just not right!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

my neighbor said he saw a female a week and a half ago.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I noticed June bugs the other night...they usually don't show up here untill after June (the past few years).

I had two hummers this morning, thought one of them was a Female as it didn't have the dark (red) on the throat area. Of course this is the first year of really paying them any mind so who knows?!!

Here is the little male I took a few days ago.

Well I can't see how they wouldn't with all of them there now and the feeders and the pond… and… and…

I've always wanted to set up one of those bird misters for them. I've read that hummers are hoots to watch in the mist.

Marlton, NJ

They do like to bath on wet leaves too so you can aim it towards a bush.

Another thing is putting out rotten fruit to attract insects for them;
obviously away from the house. :-)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh, and I bet you get butterflies with that fruit too.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

ohh, neat! I'm going to set some old fruit out then. So many little things to learn....

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Great pictures, Rose. Hmmm, misters. My luck I'd scare away the hummers...which haven't seen fit to visit me yet this year. Rose, could you buy a mister and send us pictures, please? We are all so spoiled, and the better for it. :-)

If the June bugs are out in April, guess the fireflies can't be far behind. Mosquitos are certainly here, had to use bug spray Wed night.

Deer are playing in the valley right now. Life is good.

DING! DING!DING!!!

7:55 pm. Dark and COLD. And I just had a hummer on my back feeder.

WEEEEEEEE

Marlton, NJ

Very good!!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

ALL RIGHT MRS. ED!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I hope he's okay tonight. It's so cold now!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

CONGRATULATIONS MRS ED!!! Let the fun begin!! Be sure and have your camera ready in the morning...the cold seems to make them very hungry and spend lots more time at the feeders. When mine first arrived it was cold and they seemed to spend more time just resting...great time to have the camera in hand.

Yes...I plan on ordering a mister...I really need one and by golly I deserve it and by gosh I will have one!!

Coo...I am sure the Hummers will be your way very soon...they are on their way! Tonight is cold (well, not really but it is 40, cold for the birdies now) and yes the creepy crawlies are all over the place. If I forget to spray I have to pic the ticks off...I dread the chiggers though, you have to dig those out!!

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Yah, Mrs Ed!!!

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Hummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe two. Mark thought it was chased off by another. I was so busy turning on the camera I missed that part.

Marlton, NJ

Congratulations Coo!

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks Pelle. :~D

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

weeee, a great day for hummers, not so much for this photographer (focus issues). Still, confirmation! Looks like a female to me. Can that be right? My first of the year is a female?
