Thanks Pelle...I have a spot I can stand in the garage and hide! I was up late last night reading about how to photo hummers...now I am so confused I just decided to point and shoot!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Looks like it is working!!

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh wow, thats great you have 3 hummers! That is a cute pic!

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Accidentally doubled the sugar this morning...added another 2 cups of water and boiled again (that'll probably rot fast). But do you think it's a sign? After all, if I had two hummer feeders, I wouldn't have to waste that extra sugar water.

Still no hummers. They're holding out on me until I get more feeders. Yaaaah, that's the ticket.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Still no hummers for me :( GM

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Don't worry coo and GM...they will show up and you will almost faint like I almost did yesterday!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Those are totally awesome!!

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

There I was, dressed in my Sunday morning best (pajamas) taking out the trash...........and there he was!
Drinking from my freshly filled feeder! My first hummer of the year!!! GM (now I really need a new camera!) :)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Way to go GM!!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Same as Nanny...Way to go GM!! Have fun with them!

Marlton, NJ

Congratulations GM!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I have a few more pics from yesterday...not sure if all 3 are here or not but not as much activity as day before yesterday. I guess the males must be scoping out their territory.

Excellent shots Rose!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wayyyy too cute Rose!

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Beautiful shots Rose. DH has been trying to get a pic of the hummer here, but he (the hummer, not DH) only sits still when the light is almost gone. So far, only a black blob on a gray background. We'll keep trying.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks again...I'm just loving seeing these guys around. Today they are more active and at least 2 males are present.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Rose,
I wonder when they'll move on and be replaced by your summer visitors.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed...You mean these guys won't stay?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well I thought these were the scouts? I thought they were on their way up to Canada? I dunno. Pelle? Resin?? Anyone??

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

darn!! I hope mine stays.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, what about all the ones still making their way across the Gulf! Do you think that the later they get to the states then the further north they have to go to breed? Or is it just some like canada, some like the south, some like the middle?

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

I had the first male stop by a week ago Saturday at my feeders. He didn't hang around tho, he was gone north the next day. So far, I've not seen the same bird two days in a row. My "resident" birds start to show up in the first three weeks of May according to the local experts.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed and Nanbernier...Now I get it. These guys are just passing thru and the real ones will show up later!! I am such a slow learn that it is depressing...LOL!

Nanbernier...You are just north of me so please post when your residents show up. I know in the past we have always had several Hummers throughout the summer!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well Rose, I don't know if your guys are migratory or not. Just my speculation. And then, there's the whole thing about once the mom nests, you don't see any hummers for a few weeks!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Rose, there is sooo much to learn. Like you, I am a first year retiree and have birdwatching as a major hobby. Daves Garden is the best site for learning! Now if I could just figure out all the sparrows and warblers...

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed...That is an interesting link...thanks! I remember how sometimes we had tons of Hummers and sometimes we had next to none so that explains it. I will have to start keeping notes so I'll have an idea of what is going on.

Nanbernier...If I hadn't had the birds this winter I would have gone nuts!! Now with the migratory birds arriving it is twice as exciting! Always looking for a new bird and trying to ID is a wonderful and rewarding challenge! The sparrows and warblers also give me fits!!

Jonesville, LA
