Plano, TX

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Maybe powdery mildew, can you post a picture.

sorry paul but i don't know how to download pics or have a camera--but it looks as if someone sprinkled baby powder on it and when you go to wipe it off it is a little sticky---if it is powdery mildew do i just wait for the hot texas sun to dry it up?

Bakersfield, CA

I have heard that equal parts water and milk (vit d) with a tbl spoon af baking soda in a sprayer would do the trick, as well as get rid of lots of other pests... myself, I have never tried it.

thanks--worth a try!

It does sound like powdery mildew. If the milk/baking soda thing doesn't work, any multi-purpose fungicide like Daconil, Fungonil and Liquid Copper will do.

Plano, TX

what causes it? how bad is it for the tree?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It's just something that some crape myrtles are prone to particularly in humid climates. There are some cultivars that are more resistant to it than others. I don't think it does a lot of long-term damage, it's more unsightly than anything as far as I know. It's not good to have it obviously, but it's not a big life-threatening problem.

thank you

linda, have you had much rain lately there? powdery mildew forms especially this time of year on cm's because we aren't in the rainy season yet and what the others have suggested (milk/water or baking soda/water) will work but a lot of times if you just spray your plants with water from the hose in the morning, that will work too.

we have had rain lately--storms too
