Around the first week in April my backyard was flooded with gold finch. I had never seen so many. I didn't know what they were at first, since I am fairly new at birding, I grabed my book to look them up. They were in droves for two days. Now they are gone. Too bad they were beautiful.....

Red-bellied Woodpecker spotted on my walk wednesday.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I find myself sometimes holding my breath looking at these pictures. They are incredible.

Came back from my walk this morning to find a pair of swans wandered into the territory of some nesting geese.

Neither wanted to back down. There was some fighting while I grabbed the camera, but after they kept one eye on each other, the other eye on me and my big chocolate lab who was also watching the action.

Here is one with the male swan still puffed for action.

I have never seen a swan back down, but he calmed some and let these two swim by (quickly)
By the racket they made after swimming by, I think they felt they made their point. LOL

I ended up taking quite a few pictures, more geese came in to "help". Funny how the geese all fight, but when there comes a threat, they stand by each other.
In this picture, one of the geese would swim close and then quickly back, just to tease.

The goose is still laying her eggs and is not yet sitting on the nest. Just a few minutes ago I looked out and saw a male mallard sleeping on the nest. The geese were no where around.

My Blackbirds are feeding babies, yesterday the male had his mouthfull of worms, struggling to get more maybe on the ground but the tree is leafing out and making shadows now so they weren't so good. Luckily he sat on the fence for a while posing for me while I got some better pics.
