Osprey just before impact. Notice he has move his talons to the front so he enters the water feet first. Sorry the background is so distracting.

Gosh, you folks have been busy. Wonderful pictures everyone.

Here is one for the Halloween file. I cannot see any spots on this headless woodpecker. Might it be a Hairy?

As I was about to cover my holly shrubs with plastic sheeting so I could pressure-wash the front of the house, I noticed some movement in one of the holly bushes. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a nest. This is the best picture I could get of it without disturbing the resident.

It is a Cardinal nest. Now, I have to figure out how in the heck I am going to get a picture of the babies when they hatch!

The pressure-washing will have to wait for the residents to move on.

A finch, I believe, Purple Finch because of the breast coloring and no stripes?

Resin, Pelle??

Great lot of pics today!

I was cleaning up some garden today when two male Pheasants flew past my back. It was too dull and I should have had it on a fast speed on Shutter priority, which worked better later but I got some stand offs and poor in the air scraps. When you have to run to get the camera you just take whatever you can get in a hurry.

The female notice what was going on and casually came to have a look.

By the time I changed the shutter speed they were between the greenhouses.

In the air, but not much room to flap.

The one doing the pushing was the one I have been seeing lately, it has a loose tail feather but they looked the same besides that. Soon after they went behind, another scrap, then one chased the other behind the shrubs and it flew off.

The victor strutted back and went to patrol the fence, but which one was it! No loose tail feather, I will have to hunt for one on the ground to see if it fell off!

Beautiful color. Heck of a squabble!

Yes sybil, they were at it for a long time but I kept shooting thinking they would fly off, I'm mad at myself for not taking the time to check my settings!

This female Greenfinch I got through the front window, it was tugging out roots from the dug up grass sods.

She was wary, as soon as I stood up to get a better shot she flew off.

Love the headless woody GG!

Great series wallaby!

Danvers, MA

Thanks for the Swan coloring lesson Resin.

Pelle, the pics were taken after a terrential down pour (I was in the mall shopping) then saw someone standing on the railing with a camera so I quickly pulled over to see what was in the pond. (Of course, this all happened after I took a quick drive thru the cemetary because I heard a rumor that Bluebirds like to nest in wide open spaces like that. lol I guess I'm officially a bird nut!)

Great pheasant series wallaby.

Lower left certainly Arctic Redpoll; the other two on the bottom row probably also are.

downy ... "What's up?" ... Oh - company! ... More company

Hairy - large, with a heavy bill, and no black spots on the outer tail feathers

I felt a chill of error when I typed downy! It just didn't seem big enough for a Hairy. Thanks Resin. I did let the local bird trackers know about the Arctic Redpolls.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Lovely pics everyone and Sybil a belated thank you for starting it!

We finally had a few sunny days and have been playing catch up here on the poor farm. I manage to get a few pics which I will share.

A first for me was this Savannah Sparrow among the ground feeders.
