Marie, it came from Komeri in Japan. It was the only one that bloomed like that and with his permission, I named it Count Dracula. I've crossed this with several other Platycodons and I. nils, so we should see some pretty weird stuff this year.
Here is a photo of the First Generation
Dee, thank you if you are out there!
Morning Glories 2008 #03
What happened to Dee? Haven't seen him post in quite some time! Is he still selling on ebay?
I don't know, I think he moved to Texas somewhere.. But, he is still a member here and posts sometimes, so, I think he is around.
Becky, did you see that classified ad for messenger?
here's the link http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/838952/

Thanks, A! I looked the minute I saw your post. Thank you! I really want to try that stuff and see if it will keep some of the diseases and maybe even rust fungus growth down or gone completely. I will order some from Don. Is he selling it for a good price? I don't know cause it's not sold here.
I don't know if it is a good price or not, some companies sell it for their orchards and I don't remember now for how much. I think he say's on there how much it retails for. But, if you do purchase some, get the one gallon packs, because you have to use it within a certain amount of hours after mixing it up. It is really hard to use up 3 gallons of it at a time, unless you are spraying an orchard.. once you open it, even if you only use half, the shelf life is something like three weeks after opening. So, the smaller packets are better for the home gardener (I think).
A - What do you use to spray it on the plants with? He mentioned a "sprayer". I wonder where I could get one at?
Just use a spray bottle, they are 1.00 at the dollar store.. it works fine to mist it on.
the ones i bought from a co op here was 1.80 a gallon packet. and truthfully i still have some left. that was a co op here in 2006 and i never did use it all and still have it. i guess i just didnt use it or something but thats what i bought it for on the co op
on their web site here its 3.00 a gallon packet http://www.edenbio.com/garden/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=80 hope this helps. marie
Thanks y'all. I am going to try to find a 2 gallon sprayer at HD tomorrow and then will order some Messenger from Don. His prices are cheaper than retail. I am going to use in on my entire garden area. Large area, so I will need a sprayer. I don't think my hand can pump that much with a small spray bottle! LOL!
Gourd - which generation of Dracula do I have?
Becky, I understand what you mean, we use a sprayer on the trees too. I thought you were going to just use it on MGs.. let us know if you notice a difference.
You have the 2nd generation, everyone that got seeds has the 2nd generation, I only had one seed to start off with the first time. I kept all the 3rd generation seeds for a growout, (only about 7 seeds since it was the end of the season, that was all that I was able to harvest)
A - Oh! I am going to spray the MGs, too, along with ALL my garden plants. I want everything looking healthy! :-) :-) I fertilized last weekend and this weekend it seems everything is in bloom! I love Bloom Booster and fish emulsion! Does the trick everytime for me!
Being new to gardening, I just toss seeds from trades out into my garden beds! It's always a surprise to see what comes up! I usually have to go to the Plant ID forum to find out what the different plants are once they bloom. I haven't a clue what many of my plants are! LOL! But it sure is a wonderful blessing to see such splendor and color every day! My style is cottage gardening currently. I am growing everything I can get my hands on and then as I become a "mature" gardener, I will actually work on a garden theme and make it look less cottage and more of a design of color and texture. But for now ... I am having such fun! :-)
me too, I've got my two gardens areas for DG swaps (dg gardens where I scattered all th seeds from our swap) I've got to tell you, there are some gourd plants in there that I've never seen before that came up, so it will be very interesting and other things too, just too cool.
I went out to take photos of the Blizzard flower and it is not open yet! But, the reversed split petalled Dracula is STILL open now... beats me! I've got a couple of other platycodons open and I need to upload.
I have been "lurking" for a bit. I just love your morning glories. I have never seen such a variety!
Can you help me with a question? Three years ago, I planted MG's. Blue and purple. They come back up yearly...but now they are only white. I didn't plant white....no more color at all. What the heck did I do...is it the soil?
Can you tell me where to get the colored ones like all of you have? I have never even seen them in the stores.
Thank you,
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
I can send you a five pack or more of different colors. Send me a letter size envelope with three loose stamps and I'll supply the bubble envelope to return the seeds to you and will use your 3 loose stamps. Just write on the back what colors you prefer on a piece of paper. (I'm in the Address Exchange.
As to your question, my best GUESS is that the dominant trait came out of your seeds, but, it doesn't sound like white would be a dominant trait in blue and purple, so, I'm thinking the birdies brought you some white flowers.. do you have photos?
Someone with more experience can probably ID them or tell you what happened.
Also Drobra's and Latelybloomin's seeds went out Friday.. so you should get them this week sometime.
Shawna - OMG! That's a fabulous bloom! Love the colors and the cool pattern! You are rockin', lady!!! Keep posting them awesome photos!
Shawna, Very pretty bloom
Thanks but I didn't invent it... (((like some people around here!
These started out more solid so this one was quite a surprise. Hope I get many more.
All my vines are quiet these days since I put them out. Guess it's colder outside than the grow room. or something.
Nichole - Your blooms are beautiful! Don't ya just hate missing all of it because you have to go to work! Argh!!! I check them in the morning, too, but most open after I've left. I'm out there off and on all day on the weekends, though! HA!
Soooo beautiful all!!!! My first bud is slowly getting ready to open. It has been cooler inside with the sun shifting away from our passive solar windows as the season gears up. Night everyone.
Nichole, lovely Dracula bloom
A, your Fuji No Sora x 10-10 is very pretty in soft blue.
