ooh, one of the picotee's bloomed this morning, they all are purplish in color, so I don't know why they came out looking bluish..

Here is my foursome from this morning. Beth's on top left there had a Reverse Tube...

Great photos, those look like they are coming out to their true color.. what kind of camera are you using if you don't mind me asking..

You can really see inside the throat without opening up the photos. Very nice purpureas there.

Wow Gardenpom, Those are awesome. :)

Patootie's Pink this morning. This flower was about an inch across if that.. very petite and very small plant for it to bloom.

Thanks. If you are asking me about my camera, Gourd...I have an Olympus Evolt with a macro lens which I am using most of the time. I also take close-ups with my 300mm lens. I took this MG this morning while I was using my zoom lens.

ooh, that is a nice one too, flecks on that one. I never know when my photos will come out good or bad till I see them I guess. Your photos look great.

A, was that out of the platycodon seeds or the dbl red picotee?
All of the platycodon seeds and the dbl blue and red picotees were old seeds.
A miracle any of them germinated.

Mesilla Park, NM

Yes, from the red ones, the others did not germinate, but I have a couple left from yours, so I may try them again this week. I'm sure that the flower will get bigger. How old do you think the seeds were? And do you want me to cross it with anything?

Mesilla Park, NM

Here it is with a Dracula cross, they are both tiny flowers.

A, I bought them early to mid 90's. They are yours to do what ever you want to
with.
Maybe gather some new seeds and then cross them.
When I grew out one or two of the Dbl Red Picotee, they were never dbl and never red. They looked like a purpley red.

Well, I finally have a non-wintersown bloom!

Well, I sure recognize that first one.. LUCKY. it is gorgeous, so is wrightii.. wow it almost looks like I. platensis.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, A. Dracula may not be far behind. 2 out of the 3 seedlings have caught onto the plastic fencing on my trellis, and they've all got some buds on them.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

awesome shots

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Nichole, very pretty wrightii

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks.

The I. wrightii vines are at about 3' now, and growing at a pretty good pace. I think I'll start measuring the growth rate.

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

I lost you all-so I'm playing catch-up. Awesome blooms from everyone!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Gardenpom, Antoinette, and Nichole - Your blooms are just wonderful!!! :-) I am whispering to my vines to grow, grow, grow ... dreaming of more blooms!

Beth - I added a second seed of yours to the concrete donut area and still no germination yet. I am really surprised that nothing has grown. I have growth on most of the other 19 with a second seed added to those that didn't germinate the first time. I guess it's time to nick and soak! :-/

Is the "I. wrightii" the same as one I have labeled "asago willow"?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Becky - I'm not sure if they're the same. But, I'm no expert.

We had some storms last light, and I think my flowers are not wanting to open. Dracula is trying so hard . . .

It might be the cold, here is what Drac did today, this is the third generation, I think it was the cold last night that caused the split petals here. Now that it started blooming, don't forget to feed it diluted fish emulsion/bloom booster.. you will be rewarded with tons of flowers. I forgot to light the candles in the tent last night..

Here is Fuji no Sora x Ten Ten

it stayed a softer blue, but I like it.. the edges kind of got a different shape, trying to be rounded platycodon.. it did lose the white spokes, wonder what the next one will be?

Do you think Superthrive would be good? What I've got on hand is Superthrive, Messenger, and Dr. Subler's Living Soil (earthworm castings). If bloombooster would be better, I can pick some up at Walmart tomorrow.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nichole - I use fish emulsion and bloom booster mixed together in my watering can and give em a good soaking every 2-3 weeks with that fertilizer mix. Seems to do the trick for ALL my blooming plants, not just MGs! They seem to perk up and start blooming within a week. Good thing the fish smell goes away after one day here. Stinky stuff!!! I also water it in real good with the hose after it seems to soak into the ground around the roots as A has mentioned.

I have yet to see Messenger sold here in Florida. Has any Florida gardeners seen it for sale? If so, what store?

Silly question . . . where do I get fish emulsion? Do they sell it at Lowe's or Home Depot?

Mesilla Park, NM

I mix a little bit of everything in very diluted amounts, (inlcuding superthrive Vitamin B, superthrive is not what makes it bloom more just works on the roots and gives it a temporary perk) mix everything in a five gallon bucket and just water with a cup around the roots, so that the mixture doesn't run out the bottom.. yes, the bloombooster will help with more flowers. Messenger should make the plant stronger, earthworm castings is good, but I don't think it will make them bloom more, although it can make the plant very healthy and maybe more foliage. After I water with my mix, then I use a hose with a slow low stream and re-water to make sure it goes down into the roots. The expense is high when you first purchase all your ferts, but they will last you all year and maybe two years. I get the gallon fish emulsion at Walmart 10.00-12.00, then the bloombooster Greenlight another 10.00, I also have powder kelp (seaweed) and superthrive. I don't always use superthrive because if you get your plants used to it, they get immune and when they wilt, then the superthrive may not always work ... so, I only use that when I soak seeds, or the plants need help.., or to root, or before I mail plants, I soak the roots in water with superthrive in it. (And I buy every fertilizer they put on sale at the end of the season for my trees and veggies)

If your mix is too strong, you will see it within the hour, the leaves will start to curly, immediately run water thru the pot to wash out some of the mix, otherwise you will most likely overdose it..lol. and sometimes they do not recover.

Probably more information than you wanted to know..

Mesilla Park, NM

There is a DGer selling messenger on the Classified ads here on DG.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)
