help for my gardenia

Olga, WA(Zone 8b)

gardenias are my top favorite flower, and I couldn't resist when I saw a potted one at a garden center that was just covered with buds! alas, I've done everything I can think of to get it to flower, but no. . . it just sits there. Once in a while a bud will dry up and drop, but time has stopped on the rest of them!

I have used only distilled water to spray and water them. I have given them a shot of iron and couple of weeks ago, and actually it seemed like some of the leaves turned yellow AFTER I did this! I spray them twice daily. I keep the pot on a brick above wet gravel. I water with diluted plant food. I have it by the west facing window so it doesn't get direct noonday sun. I have a full spectrum lamp on it on dark days. I live in the Pac Northwest; perhaps that has something to do with it?

what am I doing wrong?

would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Maybe it's too much fertilizer? I keep my gardenias outdoors year round so I don't know the tricks on getting them to bloom indoors, but I fertilize them at most every couple months or so and they've always bloomed fine. I tend to fertilize things less than what's recommended, so you could probably fertilize more often than I do and still be fine, but adding some every time you water might be a little too much. Do they look healthy otherwise? The leaves turning yellow could be a sign of a bit too much water (plain yellow color is usually a watering issue, yellow but with green veins is a sign of chlorosis which is what you add the iron to fix)
