Planting different legumes

Ada, OK(Zone 7a)

I'd like to start saving vegetable seeds and I'd like the cultivars I have to remain pure. Please tell me if I can plant peas, beans, lima beans and cowpeas (for instance) side by side and not have to worry about cross pollination. Thank you in advance.

mtilton,

You should be aware that if any of the varieties that you are growing are hybrids (and many are), then they will not come true to name anyway.

As for the cross pollination, I cannot say for certain.

I am not aware of any hybrids of English peas, common beans, lima beans or southern peas ( cowpeas) so you can rest pretty easy on that score. I f you grow different varieties of lima beans or southern peas, they cross within the species relatively easily. Common beans, rarely so. Have not worked with English peas that much so I am not aware of thier propensity to cross pollinate within species. You do not have to worry about interspecies crosses.
