Guess you will have to buy a bunch of bathing suit tops to garden in.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Daffy Time
Happy Earth everybody.
Still learning how to take care of my little piece of it.
Happy Earth Day! Earth has always been my favorite planet.
You have others?
I got my first load of coffee ground from Starbucks yesterday and when I walked out the door this morning I smelled coffee!
Yes - think we all do - 7 1/2 just in our neighborhood.
They built a fence today (read: had a fence installed). Now I'm back to gardening in my long johns/lingerie, depending on the weather. Yipee! But, could they not have said "we're planning to cut down a large tree which will afford us an inside view of the so-called winter sowing activities. Then we will be having a 13 foot fence installed, which will increase the available space for your woodland garden." (snort!) Hmmmm? xx, Carrie
I thought I had bad neighbors at the old house.
Street was older suburbs, houses a drivway apart ,so lottsa fences, hard to grow perennials with a six foot fenc shading all morning.
Anyway, the husband was in and out of jobs, the last straw was he drove a delivery truck for Fretolay, the darnd thing was next to my dinningroom window for months until he "moved on" to a different job.
Are you getting a bigger garden out of this?
Hope so. JoAnn
No. A shadier back yard. Houses are a driveway and a half apart. Yards are a house and a half deep. xx, Carrie
I like all of the planets. But of course earth is special since we live here.
We need to take better care of our home.
Ice it
Take an allergy pill, benedryl, if you can.
If that was me I would have grown a breast by now. Would have had to invite another one for symmetry.
OWWWWWW!
Maybe we should all just go inside and call it a day!
Hope things get better for you and your friend, Sherrie!
Victor......LOL!!! "invite another one".....LOL
When DH was stung by 100+ yellow jackets, or got 100+ yj stings (could have been two or three busy yjs, since they can sting repeatedly), and was on Benadryl for a week, and finally saw a doctor and got some prednisone, the doctor said Benadryl isn't effective against stings. Just our anecdotal evidence - and that wasn't a bee. xx, Carrie
Oh Sherrie, our thoughts our with your friend and the poor fingers! xx, C
Sherrie, I'm sorry to hear about your bad day. Thinking about you and your friend.
Laurel
We had a nice surprise this morning just before we headed out for our walk.....a beautiful yellow-crowned night heron was walking around our back yard heading for my "stick garden" of cuttings. I took this shot of him, but I had to take it through the window screen, so he isn't as clear as I would have liked. He was also rather far away at the point I snapped the photo, but he was very pretty and regal. You may be able to see the little white plant tags on the left that mark my now-leafy sticks.....Mr. Heron checked the progress of each one before meandering into our neighbors' yard.
So pretty. Is that an oleander in the foreground? Now I'm homesick.
Laurel
Hi Laurel......yes, you can see the oleander and you might be able to see the new yellow mandevilla vines with the yellow flowers on the far left, just barely. In my stick garden right near the heron are three dark red oleanders.
Sherrie, hope your friend is all right....
Celeste, how are you all doing tonight? I can't stop thinking about each of you.
Our friend is in surgery now. One finger might not make it. They "might" try to put in an artificial knuckle. Anyway's a finger does not make a friend. The same as clothes, teeth, hair etc. does not make a friend......................... Tomorrow is another day.... How are you doing Celeste. I hope your some what as sane as I am...
I'm OK....tough old bird here..been there done that..unfortunately.
I'll post the reason on the other thread that I started....no need for 2 depressing threads, but thanks for asking.
Sherrie....you are so right....a finger does not make a friend. Praying all goes well for your buddy!

Carrie: Victoria's Secret Garden??
Sherrie, Good luck for your friend.
Good grief!! I have poison ivy!
Get a Medrol Pak from your M.D. stat.
Laurel, R.N.
If it's within 8 hrs, wash it with Tecnu if you have it. If it's real bad, then yes, Medrol. Not a great thing to have when you're leaving!
I used Tecnu, both the wash and the spray. Leave tomorrow morning.....just need to add the Tecnu to my list of things to bring!
Tecnu - what is this?

Looks like good stuff - if any of us ever went hiking or anything the least bit adventurous, I would surely get some! My mom used to scrub us with Fels Naptha soap, and I WAS adventurous in my childhood! xx, Carrie
Once when I was a kid, my girlfriends and I got into a bed of poison ivy.
It was dark and we didn't realize were were playing hide and seek in a 2 ft high bed of the stuff.
I was not affected at all. My friends who were identical twins were terribly infected. They got it in their eyes and from that time on were no longer identical twins. My other girlfriend was somewhat infected on her arms and legs. Ive never been susceptible until now. I have a lot of it here and sometimes forget to use gloves when Im pulling on it.
Oh, man, Gloria. I feel for your friend! When my sister was in HS, she snuck out to the back woods with her boyfriend and played doctor in the bushes. Guess where she got poison ivy!!!
The twin that her sister considered most beautiful had the poison ivy in her eyes so that her whole face was swollen. Even years later she had layers of wrinkles formed over the swollen pockets under her eyes.
Its something to take seriously. The consequences can be permanent.
Well. I didn't tell that part. The reason we were in the poison ivy is that we were hiding from some drunken boys who had evil intentions.
When they left we had to walk home.
A memorable event.
