No, not a fern--looks like a parlor palm, Chamaedorea elegans to me http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1479/

Oh wow. Guess I was off. Im surprised its a palm. This is the 1st houseplant I was able to keep alive, I've had it for 3 years and it is very forgiving! It started as a 1-stem small baby and I have divided it into 4 good size plants since then - it actually needs to be divided again! (Not the one in the picture)

I wanted you to see mine that has only been transplanted twice in 4 years, they are one
handsome plant, and as you said so easy to take care of. I mist mine at least 3 times a week and as long as my cat cant get to it, it should a long life :>)

My plant is only 4 years old, she started out with just 5 skinny branches

Wow, Jasminesmom that is 1 good looking Palm! I hope mine ends up looking like that - thanks for the picture! I guess Im lucky in that the only plant my cat will go near is catnip~
