Daily Pics Vol. 91

Thanks Mrs. Ed :-) With bloom season coming on and all of the summer birds coming "home", I should get plenty of practice!

Just so you know, my new DSLR is frustrating at times. I have been getting maybe about a 10% success rate. I'm only learning one "method" at a time, but two different lenses. So don't be discouraged when you start seeing your results.

For what it is worth, my point and shoot still is in use and still offers some good pictures and I only have 10X optical! AND, there's still lots to learn on that little guy. I had some better success using a shutter priority option many times. So you can see why for a novice like me, it's practice practice! And you are right, it's a great time of the year to have a new camera. NOW, if the sun would only come out!!

I learned of a rookery in my area, and went there yesterday. It was a bit distant for good pics, and it was a grey sky day. But I did get some reasonable shots of smaller birds.

The Brown Thrasher come down into the yard yesterday afternoon! I just love his rich brown color!

I love that color too nanny.....rufous brown is the name, I think.

This wary Anhinga was not taking its eye off me. Looks like we are crossposting Gardenpom. I decided to let you go first. Boy, you see birds that I never see around my house. I think that it might be all the feral cats here. The "smaller" songbirds bypass our street. We pretty much just have the "larger' birds like cardinals, mockingbirds, catbirds, bluejays, doves.

This Great Blue Heron figured that I couldn't see it. It was only about 4 feet away from me in a drainage ditch.

Its hard to get good closeups of Green Herons. They are so shy.

There were numerous Tricolored Herons.

The Roseate Spoonbills were close to the road.

I like this photo of the Great White Egret in breeding plumage and the White Ibis. Both are grooming themselves.

Last but not least. A Redwing Blackbird. I was excited to see so many, and hear their singing. They were a favorite summer bird up north, and I had missed seeing them after moving to Florida, 4 years ago. Guess they were here all along, I just didn't happen to be birding at the right time.

Bsharf, I just love the Anhinga shot. Well, heck they are all great though.

What weather is Roses area expecting?

The grouch is back. The first Mourning Dove of the year showed up this morning and he/she was chasing the Steller's Jays around. I think it's grouch from last year.

Pelle, looks like most of the weather moved out of MO. for now. But all kinds of thunderstorme activity. And with the tornadoes overnight in OK and TX… sheesh.

I get one nice day before your weather heads this way Mrs_Ed.
