Cabbage Questions

North Augusta, SC

Is there a cabbage that produces more dark green leaves than others?
How late in the spring should cabbage seed be sown in the garden? I know its a cold cole crop but would like to start some now.
Does cabbage go to seed?
Thanks for any, and all, helpful tips.

Hi Misty, there are so many cabbages that have lots of different characters from each other, from the pale white to the strong dark green ones, I would hate to give you named ones that we grow here in UK as I have discovered they have different names in USA, so go to the seed companies catalogues and you will find as many different choices are there are growers, the darkest ones we have, we call spring cabbages and the leaves are tough, but the heart is solid packed and dark green, sort of conical shaped too, and much stronger flavour too, another called Savoy cabbage is dark but rough leaved, however the heart is almost white, January King is huge, dark and has a really large heart when mature, not sure if these names are the same where you live, but there are even more, hope this helps you out, I feel sure some others will be able to advise you better than me and will come to the forum with named varieties for you. good luck and happy gardening. WeeNel.

Thanks, WeeNel. I'm going to try to find a dark-leaved cabbage. Will look for the ones you named here.
