Ha! Got your attention with that little title? Cool! This is what I wanted to share with the community. Last year, I sowed some seeds and sought to grow whatever my heart contented. Didn't work. Earlier, this year I started sowing seed in a mixture of manure/compost and potting soil without results.
Not to be outwitted by these sly little devils called seeds, I finally found a forum where I could learn what the heck I was trying to do. I wanted plants and was willing to read into the wee hours of the morning to gain valuable knowledge.
Fast forward to this morning. I was checking seeds for germination. Some had and some hadn't. YET.
However, the biggest change I noticed was within me. I didn't peer shyly into the little pots wondering IF the seeds were ever going to germinate. No, Buddy!
This time, I lifted the plastic away from the sterilized soiless mix KNOWING my seeds will germinate. I embrace trial and succes, the errors have been minimized through a careful study of species and cultivars and reading those front page articles that change on this site with regularity.
And, that, my friends, is the way to use this site - to plan for the success that will come when you take the initiative to learn all you can about what you are attempting as a gardener.
Yes, I went through a change last winter and am seeing the glorious results this spring. I changed from someone who hopes for results to someone who fully expects them and for that I am grateful for this site and this community.
If you have experienced a like change, please post here to share.
So tell us, have you gone through the change?
:-) Misty

Going Through a Change
You are tooooooo funny! You win some, you lose some, but you can always learn from your mistakes, And in gardening you can make it look like you planned it that way!! LOL
Very funny !!! LOL Good one !
I felt/feel the same way about computers !
Good girl Misty, a girl with attitude eh, that's what plants/seeds need, positive thinking,
you can call yourself a gardener, most people would have given up with your past results, but then they would not have known what nature needs us to learn, patience, understanding and trial and error, that's how we gardeners learn, someone close by give you a big hug from me, I am so proud of you, happy gardening, you deserve it. WeeNel.
They should give me half a hug. I feel so guilty about the seeds I've murdered. Aieeee. I love to garden and though there were times when I almost gave up, I just kept going and going and going. Oh, I wanted to give up but this is something I wanted so desperately.
If I can encourage anyone to continue, send me a d-mail here and heed these words. Sowing seeds and realizing results is magically wonderful.
When the going gets tough, remember Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is Romaine.Keep smiling, keep sowing and keep researching.
All the Best,
MistyPetals
Good for you Misty. Gardening is like learning to walk--you'll fall down a few times but if you stick with it, you'll eventually get the hang of it. And it seems there's always something new to learn.
Talk about giving up, we have had the worst winter on record, so wet, gales lashing the whole coast where I live and this has stripped leaves from some really wonderful plants, the mess of the garden and the struggle to clean it all up only to be treated to much the same conditions a week later, yes I have said I have had enough, spoke to my husband about moving to an apartment where we wont do battle with the elements etc, nor kill ourselves having to move fallen trees to allow post or deliveries as we have a long winding driveway and it's our responsibility to keep it good, so sad. then a few days ago, I noticed some of my plants were trying to peep through the soil 2 of my lovely Rhododendrons show colour in their buds and the birds are trying to build nests, NOW, if I were in an apartment would I see all this, SO I start again, rebuild the garden that I have worked for nearly 30 years and who will look after all my lovely little birds eh, so we stay, I think gardening gets into your blood and you dont shift it that easy. not done much with all the seeds I sent for as it's been too cold and wet, no good daylight, but hey, I can live without them for this year surely, will spend the spring/summer getting things back on track again ready for next year, that's the good thing about gardening, there's always next year to sort mistakes out, revamp your beds or borders or prepare a new patch of earth ready for a new season, they say a garden is a reflection of the owners, well, I must look a wreck, the sun came out today for the first time really, so that's a start eh, good luck everyone with the new season and never give up. WeeNel.
