Daily Pics Vol. 90
Great pics Dell - hope you're catching some zzzzs now.
Wonderful pics everyone!!! We have had a pileated woodpecker pounding in the area for the last couple of weeks and yesterday I finally found him. He's in the tree right next to the house. I didn't realize he was so close and was looking further away. This morning I went out to get a pic of him! It's not a great pic but it's the best I could do with this camera and so early in the morning (light was not great). Eleanor
Outstanding shots Rose! Great job on the inflight Vulture!
Love the Pileated Grammyphoeb!
Nice pwoodie!
Very nice pics nanny!
It must create quite a racket w/ several of them in the same area.
We have alot of Robins here and they can create alot of noise but I'm sure it doesn't compare to the Flickers!
rose, I just LOVE that picture of the chipping sparrows!
All the rest are lovely too… keep it up everyone!
See if I can get this right...Song Sparrow
Yep!!
Resin
Good job nanny!
Nice pics sybil! I love the Nuthatches!
So you think you've seen a flock of starlings? Watch this to the end. http://www.bbc.co.uk/earth/nature/uk/record/1252&title=BBC
Very nics pics today everyone!
Sybil...Can't believer all that snow...geez it's springtime!!
We now have at least 2 pair of Barn Swallows diving all over the place. They look like Comacaze (sp?) pilots!!
I don't know why but that video clip makes me cry!
It's so beautiful, boojum. I found myself swaying and wanting to sing something when I watched it. Plus, being familiar with Alan Titchmarsh (the narrator), I could imagine his excitement, too.
The film on the Starlings was very beautiful!
Adel...looks like your guys have gotten all their color...very pretty!
Very nice pic adel!
Rose, "A singing Eastern Meadowlark trying out for American Idol...again!", You should hook him up with Nanny's and Adel's Northern Flickers, in their Heavy Metal Band. They'd probably make beautiful music together. LOL
Couldn't ask for a better Spring day, today. Sunny and warm. It felt sooooo
Good. Had to take pictures of the Redpolls, before they head North. Here's one of them.
Wow! That's a cracker of an Arctic Redpoll! A real 'snowball' job!
(edit: the one 2nd above, on the feeder house)

Beautiful shots burn! Glad you had such a nice day!
Is it unusual for the Arctic, to still be around this late? Would they leave before the Common or at the same time?
Probably leave about the same time - they have further to go, but also longer to wait for the thaw on their breeding grounds. They won't be able to breed before mid to late June, so they're in no hurry.

It will be interesting to see if you have as many arctics next year, Burn.
Burn those little Redpolls are just so cute! How far north do they go anyway?
And yes, the Meadowlarks try out for "Idol" all day long!!!
Mrs_Ed, I plan on keeping a close eye for them next winter, I'll be ready for them.
Rose, according to the book I have, they good way up, in the Arctic tundra, to breed during the summer . They build their nest close to the ground or on the ground. They'll eat seeds from trees and insects. They do not interbreed with common Redpolls.
It will be interesting to see if you have as many arctics next year, Burn
Highly unlikely they'll be back next year! They usually winter much further north on the edge of the tundra (yep, they're very hardy!) but have been forced much further south by food shortages this winter.

kaperc: Thank you for posting that link. That's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! Wow!
