how to remove english ivy HELP!!!!!

Irwin, PA

I would like to remove a large amount of english ivy in my yard. I have a couple of questions that need answered concerning this.

1) will liming the soil work? I am highly sensitive to 2-4D and am not interested in using any chemicals to remove
2) the ivy is around an old spruce (about 30-40ft tall) I know spruces, pines, etc make the soil around them very acidic. will liming the soil have a negative effect the spruce?

I live in western pennsylvania and we have mostly clay soil everywhere. Will liming the soil add to the problem, or does that not matter? I am also not concerned with a timely process to properly remove this, I just bought the house and am in the process of taking out old trees and plantlife. I figure this year I will tear down and next year I will begin to build it back up.

I would go post your question in the Invasive Plants forum or else in the Beginner Landscaping forum. This forum is for discussing the Plant Files database so the other forums are much better places to get advice on how to do things.

How do you feel about Round-Up? Although I garden organically, I have no reservations about using this, as it dispates from the soil within 24 hrs. But if you apply it following the directions and get a sticker spreader to add to the round-up. Ivy has a waxy coating, so you need something to make it grab ahold. It will kill your ivy off right down to the ground and not harm your trees nor your soil
