5 little green beans

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I found 5 little green beans on my indoor starts just now. Funny! Used to starting these outdoors but it has been to cold. My daughter asked if we could have them with dinner tonight. Three people ...five little beans.. I told her we need to be patient and wait for others to join these five and for them to grow a little bigger.
Looking forward to getting them moved outdoors and then enjoying them soon...

OK, here's a quick story to prove your daughter is charming. When I began gardening and had no clue what I was doing, oh, about 2 years ago, my first bean plant produced food when it got good and ready. Sometimes, I had as many as eight (YES!!) beans at which point I started cooking with Asian cuisine in mind, one steak and eight string beans ain't the worst meal one can conjure up.
Also, tonight I was thinking of possibly supplementing poor yields with the same type frozen or canned veggies. I know, its a horrible idea but I'd rather have 30 string beans or whatever and thank God for the farmer who knows more about growing crops than I do (at this point). (LOL)
Congrats, you have a productive plant, I hope to have the same really soon and I've spent many free moments recently trying to ensure that goal is met. .

Thanks Misty. The funny part about my daughter is that she will be going to the Le Condon Bleu this fall. Maybe they will teach her some fancy smancy way of preparing 5 beans for 3 people.

I plan to have at least ten this year, tell her to pass on the information from Le Cordon Bleu and I'll make a double batch.
Have you tried that bean inocluant? I'm going to give it a try this growing season. Perhaps that will improve the yield.

Hi Misty,
Did not know about bean inocluant until you just mentioned it. Learning as I go with vegetables. Sounds interesting. Did a quick search on the web and founds some articles. I just hope I can get these plants into the ground soon. Still a bit cold overnight. My tomatoes need to go into the ground soon also.
Hope you get more than ten bean..they are so yummy when fresh!

And I didn't know about it until I read about it here on DG about a month or so ago. You're right, we are learning as we go.
Isn't this interesting and will prove rewarding as well when I have 20 beans. (LOL)
Have a great rewarding growing season!!

Well, so far I have these really big leaves. The soil has been fed to inspire success.

Hey,

I did mung bean sprouts in a jar, not even the way they suggested it, but my own little creative way, and it worked. I have bean sprouts, that I use in salads and stir fries. It is easy very to grow and they are ready in about 5 days!
