cucumber and squash and pumkin problems

Waynesville, NC(Zone 7a)

every year when my cucumbers and squash and pumkins start producing the leaves get some kind of rust and look terrible I usally have to end up pulling them up they look so bad and dead looking white stuff on the leaves curlyed up leaves yellowing leaves

Boca Raton, FL(Zone 10a)

I have the same awful problem. Look up Serenade disease spray. It's organic. I ordered mine on line because nobody around here carries it. Once the disease starts, you need to spray (very lightly) almost every other day to get it under control. It's powdery mildew I think.

If indeed, it is powdery mildew, you have lots of options. PM resistant cultivars, baking soda, powdered milk, and a number of commercial fungicides including Serenade. It prevails in wet humid conditions, so if you are using overhead watering, you might quit that and use soakers.

I think in some areas, this disease is worse than others, it is caused by improper watering as well as other factors, but to be honest, it wont harm the fruits as long as you get rid of the odd leaf soon as you see this start and then spray for a cure, I have never bothered spraying, I just adjust the watering and mist the foliage to help stop it getting hold, but you cant mist if the warmth cant dry the foliage off as leaving the foliage wet for too long adds to the problems, the fruit tastes good even with the odd leaf looking sad. Weenel.
