Holy Cow !!!!!
Talk about bizarre weather ... The pics tell the tale ..
Thunder Bay remains overcast and about 8C .. light rain expected later today.
Seems Eastern Alta on the YellowHead Hwy is a NO NO to travel .. and Saskatoon is expecting heavt snowfall too !!!

What's happening in your neighborhood today...
Our rain turned to snow this afternoon, but thnakfully it melted as it fell. The sun is out now but the temp is dropping...suppose to drop to -4 C overnight. We are expecting sun all week but still below normal temps.
Impressive lawn of crocus Ann!
Anyone besides me wondering where Betty has gotten to?

Bettypauze - do you mind if we start a new part to this thread. it's getting long enough and with enough pics, that it's slow to open on my hi-speed "lite". Must be next to impossible for those who still have dial-up (and I know there are a few who live in areas where that's all that is available). I can start it - or any of us, but I'd request permission first.
Todd - the crocuses are a real uplifter after the snow we've had. I still have a bank of snow nearly two feet high all along the back (north) of the house. But all that's left in the front is a small patch about 30 x 60 cm and only an inch or so thick. I move most of my small species (although I have no idea WHAT species) crocuses into a different area where they wouldn't get overwhelmed by their larger cousins and they are much nicer this year.
All of you under fresh snow have my sincere sympathies.
Ann
Moved us over everyone..will be back early in the a.m. so that I can respond to your posts..rather tired tonight..that's what a good days work will do to you..lol

That snow that MG is getting is probably on its way to Calgary as they are saying another storm tomorrow!
Took me 20 minutes this morning to scrap off the car ( I dont have a garage) and I was a good girl and shovelled the front walks before I left for the garden show. Also shovelled a couple of walkways across the grass so my foster dog can play frisbee. It snowed until maybe noon and then stopped and some melting started. But I understand there will be more in the next couple of days!
how did the hort club show fare today with the weather, Carol?
last saturday i put the fish in the pond and congratualated myself on having them in the house less than 6 months this year
tonite i went out and put a stock water heater in the slush, my bubbler is barely bubbling and i just hope the fish aren't in permanent shock
Ann and i put all the babies in the greenhouse on thursday and today we hauled them all out and shut down the heater - dealing with minus 10 over one or two nights is one thing - but when it doesn't warm up at all during the day, it just isn't worth it.
Yesterday was the worst weather wise and I worked there all day - I think the numbers were down but it was respectable. No idea what Friday night was like - weather was very bad then. Today was pretty good but very cold ( wind) = roads were OK I hear except for Deerfoot so perhaps the attendance was better.
Good show, lots of great stuff to buy - I got some more flop bars 3 different sizes this year from Amazon Ironworks because they ae selling the business, a funky obelisk similar to the one I got last year ( for front yard, probably Clematis integrefolia on it) and some cute little ceramic mushrooms - will get some bigger ones from Greengate later. Mushrooms seem to be the big rage this year as far as stuff goes!
Also bought the new Asiatic Lily 'University of Saskatchewan" - named for the centennial - I grew up in S'toon. It is yellow and white with a touch of green.
Heya ..
I hope this is where I 'm supposed to be .. I did go to the other link .. but .. I couldn't reply to Betty's post .. course .. it could be that the cat has had me up since 5am and MY brain hasn't had enough fuel (caffeine) to allow for 100% function!!
The grass turned green in about 2 hours at the front of the house yesterday .. I swear .. I took Lilly for a walk at noon .. it was dull .. went back out with her around 2:30 and it had greened up !!
"Supposed' to reach 15C today .. pretty damp and chilly out right now though
Hope y'all have a great day !!

Marilynne - there's a slight error in the link above. Should be http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/836651/ for the continuation of this thread.
Glad the Calgary hort show was still successful despite the weather. I was talking to my brother in Calgary and he said the weather was indeed awful.
Another sunny day...I think we will break a record for sun this month. But we won't for temps! 10 C today which is good but the rest of the week will struggle to stay above freezing, despite the forecast for continuing sun.
Todd - we moved to a new thread because this one was taking so long to open. See a couple of posts above for the link.
Well I flew up to Alaska today and left 19F in Montana and arriving here in Juneau at 55F sunny degrees. Tonight after work the sun is still shining at 8:30pm. Sunset soon. you would think coming this far north I would suffer but no. Tonight I went for a walk and saw a large sitka spruce stump and sat on top of it to watch the beauty of it. The moss covered stump was over 200 years old and the essence of ocean was overwhelming as I sat and watched the sunset. The nearby snow-covered mountain tops were glowing in the Rouge of the stratospheres refraction. A small stream was rapidly descending through the melting snow pack. Each opening filled with the essence of skunk cabbage wanting to surface everywhere. I noticed that even here the deer eat everything beautiful. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to be here now.
so you are. i find it difficult to focus on the beauty of the prairie this morning as i battled drifts larger than any this year on my way to care for my equine friends (-10 with snow and blowing swow, a wind chill of -17 and absolutely no end in sight)
if the glass is half full, its definitely ice
enjoy alaska while you can steve, it is a magical place
Icky Lynn. Have you considered moving to a warmer climate. LOL Your city will be beautiful very soon. Has the river broken up? I doubt it.
well there is water moving but there are chunks of ice in it everywhere - like a dirty brown cow on the rocks
