Waiting for my son to cut a few tree branches down so I can re-hang mine .. as I close in the back deck each winter it must be removed..promises it will be this weekend, let's hope..
No trip to the city today, that makes my day, walked in the garden this morning and just can't believe how much greenery is showing, guess I didn't hinder their growth by removing their winter coat last Sunday...still a few days work to remove leaves from side and front of house, so no idle hands this weekend..of course, I'm remembering DS comment - doesn't ALL have to be done in 1 day does it? hmmm maybe I'll get some crafting and garden art done as well...
WIll comment on the previous chat when I return home later from Dr.'s appt.
Let's hope weather co-operates and the 20 percent chance of rain doesn't materialize...lol.
Do enjoy your morning...
What's happening in your neighborhood today...
We are expecting about 23 C and sunny today. Not the best news for the crocuses, but it should make a bunch more snow disappear.
Ann
Thunder Bay awoke to SUN SUN SUN !!! WOOOO HOOOO :-) The mud is almost dried up .. Lake STephenson disappeared to wherever standing water disappears to .. who cares .. it's GONZO !! Lilly (our Westie) only has a few more days of having to have a wee footbath when she comes in .. we are SO anticipating the installation of the fencing .. must be getting closer as we had a call from the contractor saying the gas company would be coming to spray where the gasline goes underground to the house .. after the fence is in .. we can simply open the door and let her out !!!
While watching the news last evening .. saw a HUGE winterstorm in the western US .. am SO hoping it peters OUT!!!
Pike/Jacks/SNAKES ... I USED to dislike'em when caught cuz they 'slimed' and .. yep .. if you aren't careful .. they WILL bite ya .. BUT .. found out that if caught in cold water .. and filleted properly (it's a knack) they are scrumptious .. the ones caught later in the season here .. the 'leader breaking Lunkers' can run up to 28 pounds .. the Natives will pickle them .. believe it or not .. YUMMY !!
Soferdig .. I am hoping that before you head out on your journey .. you would file a travel plan with someone .. too many times folks forget to do that .. course .. a cellphone would be an great thing to have .. even though its usage may be sporadic due to strength of signal. If you've been diabetic for a while .. you KNOW your body and the little fluctuations in BS that make you feel 'off'
Out to feed the deer .. and count the NEW dandilions :-)
Enjoy your day
~M~
Yeah we are waiting for the snow to arrive but I dont think the temps are going to be super cold. North and west of us is supposedly getting the worst - I hear as much as 20 cms!
This is also the weekend of the Hort Society Spring show - tonight and Sat/Sun. I am working there all day tomorrow. Hope the roads are not so bad as to stop people as this is the society's major fund raiser and because it is the 100th anniversayr they have spent more money on it than usual in terms of speakers.
I'm very worried about my new "Halo" dogwood that I put in last year. It looks like its starting to bud. I'm think of burying the whole thing in leaves but then it will remain buried for a month when I'm travelling (leave Tues) and I don't think that will be good for it. Suggestions anyone?
Well Les surely you can find a gardening friend who would come over and take those leaves off for you? Hmm?
I guess super cold is relative...I think environment Canada says -10 C...isn't that super cold for mid-April? We hardly get that cold in mid-winter. I heard your native Pulsatilla are open...I expect -10 C will do them in. You would be better if you got a dump of snow first to help insulate the ground.
Oh I think the snow will come first Todd - there are already a few flakes drifitng around in town.
Ice cold weekend coming up temps below -8C. Snow storm hopefully before the cold weather to cover up the new growth. Oh well it is a tough year to being a plant here.
I always let everyone know my plan and check in via cell or land line a couple of times during the trip. I also carry an EPIRB to help them find my body. LOL
Coming down pretty steady now!
UGggggggg Fancy .. had an email from my bud in Cowtown who is in a rather large pool tournie this weekend .. at 'The Oval' ? She told me that Calgary may see -17 over the weekend .. BLEAH !!!!! Hope Dahlia's 'Halo' Dogwood gets through the cold snap.
Did yardwork today .. mostly with the blower .. it's just so much easier with that thing despite the noise !!
AHhhhhhh weather .. whatcha gonna do !!!
~M~
o what a coinkidink MarilynneS my true luv is also playing in that tournie ^_^ What team is your bud on?
Grin and Bear It Marylynne! Its all moistrure which my plants surely need!
The Oval is the speedskating rink which was erected for the 88 Olympics.
Still coming down steady and heavy - lowest temps I have seen suggested are -10 to -12 at night.
Plants will be fine if there is enough snow covering. Roads may well be OK because the pavement is warm enought it just melts on contact although it is rather wet to might be icy tomorrow morning.
Dang me Dahlia .. I am unsure of Kathy's teams name .. but .. she is playing a team called 'Dazed and Confused' ... quite the name I'd say .. she has heard they sometimes 'choke' in competition .. but .. that could be hearsay.
I'll ask her via email .. :-) Talk about ' coinkidink' !!!! LoL She's one hecuva nice gal .. and a SUPER pool player to boot :-)
Oh me oh my .. I sure hope that snow stops falling at Regina or at the very least WINNIPEG!!!
~M~
shhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone but I luv it when the girl teams kick butt over the boy teams. Is she on an all girl team or mixed?
Well, here I am in Ashcroft BC, and the snow is coming down in bucketloads!!!! Glad I got here when I did. I have been in some crazy weather this week, in Lloydminster Ab and Medicine Hat Alberta. I always forget about prairie winds, living in Victoria. but I was sure reminded of them this week. Blowing, blowing all the time. dust, dirt. And then on sunday in Medicine Hat, it was 29 degrees, hot, dusty, and I discovered my air conditioning was not working! Drove to Clearwater yesterday, and woke up to snow this morning. It got worse as I got closer to Kamloops, then cleared right up and the roads were dry. Got here to the cousin's farm where it had snowed some this morning, and just after I got here, it really started coming down and is still at it!!! It really IS time that spring arrived!!!!

This 'snowy weather stuff' is going from BAD to WORSE ... Thunder Bay is 'static' right now .. warm yet clouded over ..
I went outside a bit ago to put away some tools and stopped to take pics of a few of my gardens .. will post'em later .. I hope you guys won't laugh too hard !!!
Dahlia .. it's an all gurls team .. and they are hellbent on winning a trip to Las Vegas !!!! Women on a mission LoL
~M~
and your chairs STILL look awesome!!!! ^_^
My MANTRA "The snow will go, the snow will go" .. nice pic ... hate the snow though !!!
~M~
It'll go all right, unfortunately it is predicted to snow off and on for the next 5 days.
Of well I do need to get things like my income tax finished - good time to do it!
want to do mine too fancyvan??? LOL
Seems so appropriate for us to be having our Garden Show this weekend doesn't it? LOL.
Joanne
Well Joanne .. at least it'll take your mind off the snow !!!
Did my taxes and spent my refund .. bought me a BURGER at Wendys !!!
~M~
Shaking my head .. SNOW in BC and not UP in the mountains either!! Kinda makes the mind start taking stock of all this 'Global warming' talk !!
Thunder Bay is cool and overcast at the moment .. may reach a high of +10C today .. better than -10C ... not sure what kinda trouble I can get into around the property .. but my bud, the landscaper, has been eyeing up the pruning shears and loppers everytime she comes over and goes into the garage. She'll be here today as it's 'DUMP RUN' day .. gotta just love Saturdays .. our Township has a landfill site .. by Saturday the recycling stuff is WAY ready to be re dispersed!!
I do think that perhaps we will be pruning some Sliver Maples that are encroaching on some Evergreens ..
Hope all the 'Westerners' in the forum are in SHOVEL mode ... I feel yer pain (most especially if we're going to be blessed with if) !!!
ENjoy your day
~M~
Well the weather certainly changed here too...16 C yesterday, 0 C today! Still, at least it is not -10 C or snowing. Our gardening show is next weekend...hope the weather is half-decent but the long range is for rain!
Marilynn, looks like you've been a busy beaver...the garden looks nice and clean. I still have 2 feet over half the back yard but at least my front is now snow-free. If the temps weren't so darn cold all weekend, I'd at least get that portion cleaned up.
As I mentioned Todd .. ya gotta LUV the gas backpack blowers .. make short work of things .. AND .. my landscaper bud has taught me buckets about how to make spring/fall clean up a breeze by simply using a TARP .. ya rake all your unwanted dead stuff into the middle of the tarp .. bring the ends together (or you can buy a tarp with handles) .. and you drag the whole shebang to wherever it is you dump your yuk .. I am amazed with the ease of clean up using that method. We have 3+ acres of property to clean up .. and the drag is at times not too far to the bushline .. using a wheelbarrow is good .. but this method tops that one .. :-)
Going to be going to the cemetery she is groundskeeper/gardener at .. want to check the Crocus planted in the fall. I would imagine we'll be wearing 'Wellies" as the cemetery will be muddy. She may also cutback some Hydrangea left for show (not that they are all that showy in winter) .. I'll take my trusty camera and MAY be able to get some pics of HER Crocuses .. going to check on the Canna bulbs in the cold room there as well ...
Cheers
~M~
OH Ann how lovely .. and Jo .. what can I say that I haven't said before .. except .. UNFAIR !!!!
Went to the cemetery to check things out .. at least this ought to give yas a smile ... :-( Am also posting some pics of my African Violets on that forum .. they are EXPLODING !!!!
I have 3 pics ..
#1 is showing a COUPLE of the many crocus that are up and trying desperately to 'show off ...
~M~
it's snowing heavy here in Victoria, about 3cm in the last 1/2 hour. Big fluffy flakes. It's just not right!

Still snowing a lot here in Ashcroft also. And I want to head home on Monday, so this white stuff had better stop. I am really ready to get busy with outside stuff!!!!
MG99-if it's snowing at your house, I'm pretty sure it is going at it at my house too!!!!!
Hope it warms up by Monday.
