What's happening in your neighborhood today...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got in from work, walked the yard, everything looks so depressing, but what wonders will soon emerge..can't wait so we'll start with a new photo...lol
thanks for keeping me company..

Guess who forgot to bring in her blue herons, now all rusted ..they need to be replated...lol

Oh, I like those herons the way they are! The word is "Rustic". I walked around my garden and noticed somebody stepped through the middle of my Bergenias and broke off many blooms & stems. It was an ok day except for being sick but they say rain for the weekend and then cold weather next week. I thought global warming meant warm.

Rustic is good!

A bout half an hour ago the police helicopter was circling over my house - I looked out the front, no action, walked to the back and heard a couple of loud bangs- get to the back door and there are cops and cars all over the back lane behind my house.
Story f rom the cop who was taking my info- - guy in stolen truck was being tracked by helicopter - dumped the truck in my neighbors drive ( across from me)and ran on foot cops followed him, he got back in truck to try to get away - in the process of backing up and trying to get away damaged my fence, my neighbors fence, a cop car and took out the corner and garage door of the newly built ( not yet even finished) garage next door! At one point, before I talked to the cops I went out and peered over the fence and realised why they had been all over the ground - there was a body lying on the ground! At first I though he was dead but he was handcuffed, lying on his stomach.I didnt realize it at the time but I actually saw them take him down!

Great excitement - maybe the TV stations will come to interview us???? NOT!

Dogs greatly excited because of the heicopter which is still circling around half an hour later.

Time for bed!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

You people who live in the troubled areas of Canada. It must be difficult Carol to stay alive. Sounds like fun on a snow covered Thursday night. Get some sleep. I am hard at work watching a dog having a seizure from eating some garbage on the beach up here in Juneau AK.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fancyvan, wow that's some excitement..even the best areas can have the odd occurance which makes it all the more frightening! Ouchhh for the fencing and garage..poor furries, don't know what all the fuss was about...you must have been beside yourself seeing the body on the ground...hope today is calmer for you...

Growin, you stay in bed yet another day, it's a Friday and with weekend coming it will give you a few extra days to recoop (if you don't work weekends)...cold here as well, not raining here at the moment but understand in Barrie which is my 1/2 driving mark it is raining and in some areas later this evening we could even have some freezing rain..flooding all around this community, but this week with the weather cold but sunny its melting slowly..I'm for that..calling for a lovely weekend though..

Soferdig, up in Alaska? and what kind of temps are you having..this reminds me, should d-mail Kiska..

Well I'm off to work, had a few minutes so thought I'd drop in for coffee...

Do enjoy your day!

One little area in my garden looks pretty sad!!!

NO snow here Sofer - long gone.

Pics showing last nites damage - my fence, neighbors fence and the garage next door ( new construction not even finished yet!) One of the construction guys next door brought out a sheet of plywood and screwed it across the damaged fence area so no danger of dogs getting out.I was very lucky my car was pulled well into the parking pad and did not get damaged. And my neighbor was lucky he did not back into her garage door as it would also have badly damaged her car.

Holy cow! That's one joy ride of descruction. The garage looks pretty damaged up there. Lastnight musta been a little more excitement than normal.

Victoria Harbour, ON

wow, that's a whole lot of damage isn't it..now what happens when the destruction is due to damage done when vehicle is stollen..will the insurance repair it without charging the deductable..

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well what next? I am working on the computor and I see a big truck delivering some wood next door. It is a very tight spot and I go out to see if he would like me to move my car. And then I see my phone cable lying across my yard! the mast against the house is snapped and it is hanging down in compnay security guy who has been next door all morning also saw what had happened and told me what to do. Also helped to prop up the cable a bit so cars can get under it. Phone company says tomorrow morning at the latest! Told them not very safe to leave it because once it is dark vehicles in the lane cant see it! Fortunately the line did not snap so I still have phone/computor service.

(Zone 4a)

Betty I have to admit - I am glad I am NOT the only one with snow on the ground! It is melting but one day at a time! Are you going to be having milder temps the next few days? We are so I am hoping that this white crap melts!!!!

Fancy OMG I would have been floored!!!! What a weird and scary situation!!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I left Alaska today Juneau at 38F and arrived at home in Kalispell at 12am at 44 F. Quite nice here. Can't wait to see the garden in the am. Steve

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fancyvan you'd better stay in on this glorious sunny day..these occurences come in 3's do they not..lol

Steve, photo's of the garden please...

Yes Dawn, they are calling I believe for about 14 today and 17 tomorrow so that will help, can't believe from the time I took the photo (on the sidebar) just how much melted..starting to see patches of green, infact, last night I took a walk about and could see many flowers trying to show themselves...even a little teardrop looking ever so lonely on it's own..mastered the snow and freezing temps...

When one sees the beds you are almost tempted to get the rake out and it takes a lot of willpower not to do so as surely they will freeze...still need their winter coats for awhile..

So I'll bring out all my back deck furnishings so I can sit and perhaps even have a b.b.q. lol..don't cook much, that's a statement, should say I never cook..being on your own and working it makes sense to eat out, less cleaning in the house and more time for play..lol but I will attempt to use the b.b.q. which was used once last year...imagine...

Then I'll do a yard cleanup where possible..branch debris to be burnt so off I go, few things need to be done in town...my goal before gardening season truly arrives is to turn that back metal storage shed into a country cottage from the outside...so need some wood to do 'trompe l'oeil' windows..my first stop this morning..my favorite location...Home Depot..
Then off to the garden centre - need planting soil for all these seedlings I have...
Then off shopping for my weekly 'treat' each and every Sat. I make sure I purchase something I want and spent $100.00 on it as a treat for working..makes it fun, sometimes it's total garbage sometimes it's something I've seen and liked, but it's something to make me smile...lol..always need that...

I've gabbed enough..do have a wonderful day, one that is full of sunshine, if no sunshine exists, enjoy planning your garden from within...

(Zone 4a)

Ohhh you are lucky with those nice temps!!!! Today our high is 10 C however I am NOT complaining!!! It will make for a beautiful day!!!

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Treating yourself every week is a wonderful idea - we all deserve to treat ourselves better at times :-)

It's a gorgeous sunny day here today and the temperature is supposed to get up around 10 or 12. I'm planning to start a few more seeds indoors, then sow some seeds to pots outdoors. Things like poppies that I would normally sow direct right now, but I can't since I'll be redoing my gardens as soon as the ground dries enough to get out there and work with it.

Have a great day everyone!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well the 3rd thing did not happen! The phone company arrived fairly promptly
( and very nicely screwed the downspout of the eavestrough back up!
they informed me I would have to get an electrician in to put up a new mast and they would have to coordinate that with the phone co. who would have to disconnect and reconnect the cable! So I phoned the trucking company whose driver did the damage to inform them I expected them to pay and they said they would arrange, after checking the pictures the driver took, to get an electrician to do the repair. Im not holding my breath but at least that sounds good.
Now we just have to find somebody to do fence repairs since it turns out we have to bear the cost ourselves!( or our insurance minus the deductible)
Well Betty it was sunny yesterday but this morning everything is white again so not much to enjoy out there!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Geez Betty My garden is ugly right now but I will send a picture. Lol How bout last fall.

Jeepers creepers Fancy !!! I am shocked with all that happened .. I am receiving alerts by email from environment Canad telling me that we have a Winter Storm Warning in effect .. coming from the south west .. as it stands the snow is 80% GONZO here .. and the mud .. lets just say IKKKKkkkkkkkkk ..

Unfortunately we found a dead doe on our front lawn this morning .. the Ravens are 'doing their thing' as well as this guy who was kind enough to wait for me to go and get the digital. I had to putz around with the zoom etc .. so am hoping these 2 pics come across OK.

As for flowers ... hmmmmm .. nadda .. but .. we have SNOW BUGS !!!!

Soferdig...I want a garden like yours NOW..did play in the soil this afternoon though..got everything that was in ziplock bags sprouting in soil..so let's see if I can keep them alive till spring..well planting spring...got a little carried away this morning, bought 4 lifejackets for the 'foxy lady'...rushing the seasons a bit..couldn't resist..between soil and a piece of garden art for my garden and the jackets along with a sunny day..wow, who could ask for anything more..even got some painting done on a floormat for outside at the front door...

lol can just picture that bird coming towards you, he's a big sucker for sure...tell me it ain't so..come on now, you are just late with April fools right...more snow..

I did a few trenches tonight, water was close to the back of the house, seems to be taking some of it away..ground was frozen so wasn't able to trench as I should have..but, tomorrow I'll have to take a photo of the same area I took for the inset to show how much has left since what - Monday I think..

Glad everyone enjoyed their day..won't be long and I'll be heading to bed..busy day I've had..maybe I can dream of Soferdig's garden...

p.s. I'm not even sure my garden looks as good as his at it's worse..lol

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

You are too kind Betty. I am having fun getting the garden ready. Soil is soft and so this is the time I build soil in my new beds. I am getting several loads of cow manure to make the soil cook. I have been preping it with compost and mushroom compost. This is kind of the center of 2000 sq meters of new bed. I get to plant a lot this year. Oh boy!

Thumbnail by Soferdig
Victoria Harbour, ON

It certainly will be a beauty..this year I must enhance the soil, that's 1/2 my problem and of course having absolutely no patience..I walk around in neighbors gardens and I want their beauty but I must remember this is only my 3rd year as I was lucky to find 3 plants on the entire lot..so I'll enjoy all of yours, I'll listen and learn and one day I'll be able to post such beauty as you all have..

It will be a marvellous day here, I've already been playing outside, found the fire pit and am burning some tree debris..some of my shrubs have broken limbs so I guess I should be cutting them off..noticed that my secret garden is not so secret set amongst the lilac trees until the trees display their beauty..So do have fun, I've a zillion little things planned to entertain myself..life is good today

By next week I'm sure weather permitted there will be no snow left..I can even see my pond...

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

What a glorious day it was here yesterday, and looking to be the same today! It was sunny and warm enough outside I didn't even need a jacket. Oh, life is good.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Ahhhhhh .. overnight we trudged backwards in time ....

2 pics to show the ever lovin SNOW !!!! Which .. is still falling .. at least it hides the MUD!!

Look at those deer, what a beautiful sight..worth the snow..
I got carried away on this beautiful day and took all the plastic down that enclosed the back deck..know it wasn't a smart thing to do, but with the sun shinning I just could not resist...I've a smile now but I'll be shedding a tear when the snow starts up again...lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Ahh Betty .. I'd have done the same thing exactly .. the 2 days before this crud we had cleared the patio up and had a BBQ .. even had a bonfire up at the firepit .. it was kinda muddy on the feet .. but that's what MUCK BOOTS are for :-)

The lawnchairs are now sittin up at the firepit covered with snow ..

I just betcha today will be the day I'll see a ROBIN :-)

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

No Robins here yet..know the feeling but I've waited long enough..I'll make my little corner of the world "spring" lol

Look how much snow has left since Monday...almost see green in the grass...

I think with all the positive energy from us .. there is NO WAY Spring is going to get away with NOT happening and the sooner the better :-)

Love all the pics ....

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Just think of all of the water you will have when the snow melts. I love snow in other peoples pictures. We are clear and have had lots of snow as precipitation but none has stayed for a while now. Looking out the window at the brown garden.

Thumbnail by Soferdig
Victoria Harbour, ON

Soferdig, even though it's brown, it leaves it to the imagination to guess what wonders is yet to come..
Blue sky today, was 38 degrees on my way in, cold but bright..can't wait to get home this evening..might get to play outside for another hours..

Marilynne, news was saying this morning that you were in for yet another large snowfall..said if any of us had friends up there, call and see if we could borrow your lawnmowers...not funny right? Hope it's wrong and that sunshine is gracing the sky where you live as well..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well Betty ... the snow is RAIN !!! Somewhat close to freezing rain :-(
April Showers .. bring May Flowers !! :-)

The temps are cool .. maybe 32F .. can imagine the ride home from work tonight for folks that live out this way is gonna be a bit treacherous ..

I really don't complain too much about the rain as we have a well .. so .. every droplet is appreciated :-)

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

You be careful out there..it was 34 this morning when I passed Barrie, it's sunny but rather cool...but still a blessing that it's not white stuff..

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Will be mild and sunny today in Ottawa. The snow is receding rapidly. The newest "sport" is shovelling lawns. LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

ViolaAnn, can't believe it..took the photo on the inset over the weekend and last night when I got home all but a few banks remain..calling for 16 today so by tonight when I return home there will be NO SNOW! Yippee, with the rain they are calling for the weekend, grass will start turning green..life is wonderful...
