Not sure which species of Hummer this is.

Oh my! I had lots of catching up to do!!

I was to the point of tears Sunday....I had gone out looking to see what I might find to photograph. I was hearing lots of chirpping and singing but not seeing alot. So, there's a cardinal sittting up on this branch ...so I'm like 'okay let's see here.' Well it was very overcast so decide it just isn't going to work. I am bringing the camera down...there sitting on the ground about 20 feet from me was a Pileated Woodpecker!! Of course it took off as I brought the camera back up to shoot! I was sooo upset that I didn't see it.. never thought to be looking down for one ...was always looking up. SHEESH!


Got this Turkey Vulture flying over the frontyard yesterday.

Nanny...Nice pics also and I feel your pain missing the shot of the Pileated!! I hate it when that happens...and it seems to happen a lot!! I haven't seen or heard our Pileated so I'm wondering what happened to it.

Here is a Northern Mockingbird that was mocking me as I was out walking yesterday!

The Eastern Phoebe's are still here and are very good about letting me take their pic!

Backside of a Meadowlark!

White Throated Sparrow at a little watering hole! I was hiding at an awkward spot so not the best angle.

I just missed getting a good shot of this Brown Thrasher! I had my camera set wrong and slapped myself silly for my dumbness!! LOL! Anyway this is another first for me and at least I got it. I saw it again later in the day but I was like Nanny...looking up instead of down!

I'm on a roll...here's another bad one of the Brown Thrasher!

Mr. Bluebird is still patrolling his area!

Hang in there nanny, you'll get that Pileated Woodpecker picture one of these days. Now you have the intrigue of wondering when it will again appear! Suspense, nanny, suspense.

Are the Rufuous still coming around?

Hanging Rock is a good raptor site. Some very good close-ups of a Sharp-shinned at the bottom of the page.

They are good!

Pelle there are two Rufous males and I think one Rufous female and what appears to be an Allen's male. It's hard to get a good count because the frazzled one keeps all of them moving pretty fast.

Do you have feeders on both sides of the house adel? He can't possibly cover them all.

Every year I have one or two white-winged doves build their next on my back porch. Here's the first nest of the season. Mama looks as proud as she can be. She just doesn't realize how homely her little darling really are ... LOL.

Here's a close-up of one of the babies.

This ladder-backed woodpecker was so busy that he didn't mind me snapping his picture.

And, here's the same ladder-backed woodpecker about 15 minutes later. He sure made quick work of that tree branch.

This past weekend, DH & I went up to a wildlife preserve. Most of the winter visitors had already gone home; but there were still lots of other waterfowl and shorebirds around. Here's a killdeer that we spotted.

And, here's an American Avocet.

I took lots of pictures of the cormorants. Here's the first one.

These turtles seem to be telling this cormorant, "Hey wake up fellow!"

Okay ... they're not birds ... but these turtles seemed to be playing a game of how many could fit on one log.

Here's a pair of coots.

As I took this picture, DH commented, "Hey, here's one old coot taking a picture of a couple other old coots." (He really loves me, honest!)

Here's a Great Egret.

I guess the Egret was camera shy because it flew off.
