Last year's crosses, this year's vines/blooms!

Thanks so much everyone!

This vine seems to have it all for sure ... different colors, shapes, and sizes of lots & lots of blooms. I wish I knew more about this cultivar. I really haven't grown but the Yaguruma Blizzard vine that was as diverse as this one. Some of the blooms are small and others are much larger. I never know what I will find each morning, but it is always very beautiful! Luckily, I am seeing seed pods forming. I hope to get lots of seeds of this one crossed with Kawaii.

It is in a pot which it is sharing with Campsis radicans (Trumpet Vine). I am surprised it is doing so well, because CR is a very aggressive growing vine with an extensive root system. The pot is a large one, but it is not like being grown in the ground with endless root room. So ... interesting to say the least!

Today, yet again ... some more interesting blooms. These are on old stems. The white edging is absent. (Reminds me slightly of Fuji no Monet.)

I love these blooms too Becky.

It was overcast yesterday, so I had some blooms still open at 5 pm. This is what the late afternoon bloom color looks like. Becomes a dark pink/magenta. You can see the seed pods developing! Whoo Hoo!

Shawna - I am so glad my fertilizer mix is working for you! It really kicks the blooms into overdrive!

Seedpicker - I don't know about a "glow", but the flowers are an unusual color and when there is a large flush of flowers, it IS definitely an eye catcher! :-) I have plants blooming all over my backyard right now and my eye is immediately drawn to this vine and it's blooms! It's also a vertical plant, so drawns the eyes from the bottom to the top of vine. Because so many of the blooms are different, it allows your eyes to pause as you look at each bloom. It is one of the most unique plants in my entire yard and that is including out of all the MGs I am currently growing as well. I shall be growing this vine and Yaguruma Blizzard every year somewhere in my yard. The Japanese were on to something when they developed the Yourijo gene! It's simply amazing, IMHO! I feel very fortunate to have gotten the parent seeds from Emma to get this cross! I am soooo hooked on MGs! :-)

Thanks, Jackie!

Okay ... After seeing an I. nil bloom, I have to say these flowers are more the size of I. purpurea. Some of course are larger and some are smaller. But the bloom habit reminds me of I. purpurea.

TO. DIE. FOR! the most unique vine this side of the ocean I bet!

becky how often do you use the fish emulsion/bloom booster concoction?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank you, Shawna! I use the fish emulsion with Bloom Booster mixed together about every 3 weeks during the growing season ... which here it is probably year round now due to Global Warming.

Becky, No wonder you enjoy crossing MGs. They have such wonderful variety. The article by Jacques today on Reunion Island MGs was very interesting. I wasn't aware that there were yellow flowers.

There are, Pam! Though I haven't grown any that color. I do have seeds for several different yellow blooming cultivars, but I haven't had any luck germinating them. :-/ I'm gonna try again today to plant some more seeds. We shall see. I read Jacques article. Very interesting indeed!
