Now April, don't go crazy! LOL. I like your user name!

I'm not sure about rooting in water. Some things do well for me in water but dracaenas seem to rot when I try rooting them that way. I would pot it up in a small pot with regular potting soil. You might have to stake it so it doesn't tip over being that it's so top heavy. I would cut it into a few pieces and even the bare stalks will root. After they are planted up, just water lightly, keep it out of direct sunlight and in a couple of months you should see new little leaf growths peeking out. It will form branches along the sides of the stalks.

Here is a link to some information in the Plant Files for the corn plant: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54287/

Yes, you can cut off the brown, wilting leaves. As to potting, in my opinion a 5 gal bucket is way too large for that plant. You could very well pot it in something that large but the plant would really have to work to fill that huge container with new roots. A 1 or 2 qt pot would be a bit better. Usually you judge by how large the root ball is for what size pot to use when potting a plant. Since the base of your plant is not very large, with just a few roots showing, I would use a smaller container. Just make sure whatever container you use has lots of holes in the bottom for good drainage and make sure you don't over water, just keep the soil damp but not real wet.

Good luck with your project, I hope you see new growth on your plant in the near future!
