Do you think I should take a chance?

Do you guys think that I should take a chance on this company? I've never had to dispute charges before so I don't really know what's involved or if taking a chance on this company is worth it all the possible trouble.

Any input?

Unless they are offering something that you want desperately and absolutely cannot find anywhere else, I would not consider a chance on this group of companies.

I do a great deal of mail order (of all types) and yes, it is a real hassle to dispute charges, even when the company is pleasant about it. When ordering plants, there is nothing more dismaying than opening up a box and finding half-dead, scraggly specimens that you wouldn't have paid $5 for at your local big box garden center, let alone a reputable nursery!

In fact, I had to recently dispute four plants ordered from Park Seeds. I'd ordered seeds before but never plants. Big mistake - two were DOA, the other two were half-dead. One of the two has recovered nicely, the other remains a 2-branch scrawny stick - which cost me $19.98 EACH plus shipping. This after six months I've carefully babied it, too.

I also ordered two 'Endless Summer' hydrangeas by mail when I couldn't get them here (CA has strict plant laws; we are generally the last to get many new varieties). One is vigorous; one is pretty wimpy but hanging on.

Actually, I don't like ordering any plants. I do so only if I absolutely, positively can't find it locally. What you get for the $$$ is vastly inferior to what you can buy locally, and costs three times as much. I buy almost exclusively container plants, so the cost wouldn't bother me so much if the plants were better quality - but they aren't.

I would strongly suggest you ask a good local nursery if they can help you special order what you want. I've done this, and although expensive, all the plants were top-notch. One of them was a rare variegated liquidamber (sweetgum) of a type my gardener had never seen before, and now he covets it intensely - a beautiful urban tree that only gets about 35-40' tall instead of the usual 60'. It cost me $250 (I almost fainted!) but that 3' tree is now 18+' tall, 5 yrs later.

The plant nurseries around here don't have diddily. They have common stuff going for too high prices.

I'm a college student, I don't have money to throw around. I used to be able to add to my collect via mail order but that option isn't feasible anymore b/c of the price hikes. The postage hiked and in turn the sale prices hiked. As, I'm sure, you know.

This company had some really tempting prices but I think I'll only order a couple of things I know I can't find elsewhere. I'll give it a shot.

What is it you are looking for? Folks here might have other ideas on where to buy these plants or they might even offer them for postage.

I agree, the postage costs have really gone out of sight. Recently I tried to order a few things and found out the postage was higher than the cost of the plants.
