Philodedron Help

Morgantown, WV(Zone 6a)

I posted this earlier in the Beginner Gardener forum...maybe here is better....

I have recently been trying to revive a friends severely neglected house plants. I have aptly brought many plants back from the brink of death (most of which I thought were unkillable, but my friend has almost proven that theory wrong). My problem is that he has a philodendron that has been neglected, it needs a good trim and repotting, but it's one vine (i guess) that is about 3 feet long with no new growth showing and wilting leaves. The vine is very thick, and I would like to try and make new plants out of this. Aside from the obvious repotting...HELP! This philodendron and I would be appreciative

I sent you growing instructions on the beginners questions so if you go back there, you can read the answer to your question. geed luck. WeeNel.

Get it some strong sunlight. I have had this problem many times when I think I can move mine away from the window a little. Nope. They really thrive with bright light.

Pumpkin: You didn't post a photo of the plant so it's hard to give advice on proper care. If it is the heart leaf philodendron that is usually found in hanging baskets: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/736/ you do not want it in full sun! This one is a low light plant.

Here's the link to Plant Files on other Philodendron's. Culture and care are different for some of them:

plantladylin- really? That is so weird. Mine loves the sun and wilts if I take it away. I guess I wouldn't put in it in full afternoon sun outside, but in the window for sure. Must listen to the experts though. :) My thumb is light green at best.

jsknutson: I do not claim to be an expert by any means. Maybe the sun is not as intense where you live as it is here in Central Florida. I have never heard of anyone growing the heartleaf philo in full sun but if your plant is thriving for you, then you shouldn't change a thing!

I have had this one: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/176340/ for quite a few years and it usually stays in the same location on my front porch, which faces east. It is under a covered roof so gets very bright light but no direct sun. Down here even morning sun can scorch a plant quickly.

I think there may be a distinction here too between indoor & outdoor growing...I think jsknutson is talking about having it inside in a window with bright light, which is not the same intensity of light as full sun outdoors. So I wonder if that's the difference?

Or perhaps he has it in an east window. I've gotten away with that here in MS but only in the winter months. During the summer, I either move it to a lower light situation or tip the blinds to reduce the light it gets in the east window. But I agree with plantladylin, if it's thriving where he has it, by all means leave it alone. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
