Snap Beans, Stringbeans Help, Please

North Augusta, SC

My snap bean seedlings have sprouted but instead of standing they are doubled over, probably due to one of two reasons, either they are in pain because of the damage I've done OR they are giggling at how the novice gardener "really blew it this time."
In any event, would someone please post on what I could have done incorrectly. Why are they doubled over instead of moving toward the nearby light?
They resemble little green ? with bean shell heads. Would bean inoculant cure this?

Thank you for your suggestions, they are appreciated.

What are you using for a light source?

I'm using grow lights. Here's what I did. I put the seeds in the Jiffy peats, then waited until I saw green. At the stage, I placed them under the grow lights.

Remember snap beans emerge by sending up their mid stems first, then pull the bean out the ground. Soon atfer they usually straighten up and head toward the light. You may just be observing the first stages of emergence.

Mistypetals, I just went through the exact same panic. I am new to veggies also and my beans did the same thing. It was, simply a laugh attack and once they get all of the laughs out of thier system they will stand up and reach for the sun! Good luck with your veggies!!

Farmerdill, thanks for quelling the panic attack I was experiencing.
Msmissa, when someone shares they've experienced the same type of issues with bean tissues, well, that's a relief. Thanks.

Update, the bean seeds I started outdoors are doing much better than those started indoors, I have learned a lesson about beans. And fo rme, that's what gardening is all about, learning bout the living.

Hi everybody!
I am new to this site, new to veggie gardening too.I would like to start a raised garden because I don't have a lot of space to plant in the ground. Should I put plastic in the bottom before putting in the soil? what kind of soil would I need for pole beans and tomatoes? thanks for any ideas.

Hi Babs,
Welcome to DG. I don't know the answer to your question but if you do a separate post you will be more likely to get answers. It's been about 2 weeks since MistyPetals last post to this thread so folks may not be looking at it anymore.

Welcome, babs06,
If you do put plastic in the bottom, I would suggest that you make sure there are drainage holes in it as well.
Naturelover is correct, you really should do a separate post to ask about various soils the community prefers.
