Daily Pics Vol. #85

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

I've been asked to start the new thread. We came from here, another thread full of GREAT pictures! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/827847/

I'll bore you all with another Pileated pic :-) The male comes regularly now although he's still more skittish than the female. This was taken last weekend.

Not the best pic but I finally had some male Purple Finches stop by...

Outstanding pic sadie!!! They are such a handsome bird!

I love the second pic too! Congrats on the Purple Finch!

Thanks for starting the new thread!!

Thanks Pelle :-)

I managed to get a decent pic of my little Carolina Wren. I think it's getting more used to me, it doesn't hide every time I'm out now.

My old friend the Mocking Bird has come back and brought a friend. I hope it's his/her mate, I'd like to see some little mockers this year.

And last, is a new bird for me :-) Resin verified it as a female Yellow-rumped Warbler, I hope it hangs around brings the male too.

Wonderful pictures tigerlily and sadie. Tigerlily, a pair of mallards, perhaps you'll have some baby ducks to share with us.

Thanks Rose.

I sure am going to try to get some pictures of those babies when they hatch, provided I can find the nest.

Geez, it's cold and windy here today. It was in the low 20's this morning.

Hmmmmmmmmmm-- wonder if that will taste good?

Great Pileated pic sadie_mae!
We spotted ours again, but gone before I got the camera again! I have heard them 'talking' now a couple times in an area close by. You just can't mistake that for something else!! I am keeping the tray and platform feeders loaded with peanuts for them! I don't have a silo and couldn't hang it on the tree anyway. The squirrels would have it empty in no time flat!

Great pic of the Pileated WP sadie, I like the Mockingbird one too.

Lol, GG, the WP has it's eye on something.

nanny, a squirrel chewed my nut and suet net off along with the thin branch, but the hanger was plastic. I thought the silo hung from my pergola would be safe! All that's keeping it together is two small plastic tabs (through the wire) which the cap is threaded onto.

Nice pics nanny and wallaby!

I really wish I could put the peanut feeder in the tree but those squirrels would have it mangled in no time, and mines all metal.

Lots of sun here today but its cold and windy so I doubt I'll be able to stay out for long if at all.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks for starting the new thread Sadie...and for the great pics also...congrats on the new bird!!

Very nice pics so far today, it is cold, windy, and rain is expected so I will watch the birds from inside today. You folks East of Mo. will be getting our weather in a day or two so stay warm!

Quoting:
female Yellow-rumped Warbler, I hope it hangs around brings the male too

Sorry, it won't! It is only a passage/winter visitor in KY, within the next 2 or 3 weeks it'll head off to Canada (or New England) to breed

Love the pictures, as usual, all are great.

Wallaby, that squirrel is really a contortionist. Beautiful, though, aren't they?

Marlton, NJ

The last shot of the Northern Flicker is so good adel! I love those guys.

Klamath River, CA

Pelle.............They are photogenic. I think this is the one that was pecking on the transformer. His beak doesn't look any worse for wear.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

SO handsome, adel!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Very nice pics of the N Flicker adel!

Yes GG, squirrels are beautiful and contortionists, that one had a peanut in it's mouth and jumped off to the ground after that.

Today I got a couple of Greenfinches on the silo, or trying. Too dull and out the window, but here they are anyway. This one next to a Blue Tit,

I just love those blue tit's. Wish they were North American visitors :(

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Love that Flicker shot Adel and glad your Swallows are back.

Wallaby...Love your birds especially the Blue Tit...I think that bird is one of my favorites now!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Y'all take the most wonderful pictures! I saw my first Northern Flicker this year. The gentleman building the house across the street was talking to me this morning, and I could hear a Northern Flicker. It was making me crazy. I wanted to run in and get my camera and binoculars so badly! I behaved myself though.

Here's a goldfinch. Not as pretty yet as your adelbertcat, but he's getting there!

Thumbnail by Elphaba

I think this guy drank my coffee when I wasn't looking because he won't stand still for even a second. I'm sharing even though it's not a great picture because I just love Hooded Warblers! (My little girl dog sometimes drinks my coffee if I accidentally leave it on the coffee table and then she's absolutely crazy all day.)

Thats neat their such a great looking bird!!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Lol, you have your pretty birds too, and the Tufted Titmouse is a cutie! But I have to agree Blue Tit is real cute!

Elphaba, your Goldfinch looks bright to me! The Hooded Warbler looks very interesting too!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Very cool Elphaba...I've never seen a Hooded Warbler...but I will be looking as they are summer residents in our state. Thanks for the pics...the Goldfinch is very handsome.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Here's another hard-to-get subject . . .

Firecrest (closely related to Golden-crowned Kinglet)

Firecrest. Nifty, Resin. Love seeing "new" birds. :)
I was amazed to see this Goldfinch today. Usually they have left our garden for the season by the time they get this yellow. Not a great shot, because Ithere were so many branches distracting my auto focus.
