I just purchased a bag of latris bulbs/corms whatever. The directions say to plant the pointed end down. These things do not have a pointed end. Please help me determine how to plant them.
Thanks,
Linda
Latris
I've only bought Liatris plants not the bulbs, but I imagine there's one side that's more pointed than the other...it may not really be pointy but one side will look slightly more pointed than the other. If that doesn't help you, then post a picture of them and someone will be able to tell you which end goes down.
Liatris "bulbs" (actually a tuber sort of rootstalk) have a rounded bottom to them. Yours may have old dried up roots still attatched to them. The top of this thing MAY be somewhat concaved...this is where the leafy stalk emerges.
In any event, plant the rounded side facing down, and the hollow, concaved part facing up.
Even if you do it wrong, they'll "right themeselves" and come up anyway.
Thank you both very much for you help. I looked at the bulbs, some do have smaller ones attached to the larger. I think my bulbs were frozen at some point because they are a big mush.
Again, thanks so much,
Linda
When you say they're a big mush, do you mean there's just a bunch of them stuck together, or do you mean they feel mushy? Bulbs/corms/etc ought to feel firm, mushy usually means they've rotted and you should take them back and get a replacement (or your money back).
