WC - some people get rather violent with free speech so it's just as well that politics is a forbidden subject here. Some of the nasty people go to the limits to show the world just how mean, rotten, and miserable they can be and stop at nothing to insult others. It really just shows how insignificant they are.
I loved the rain on your snowdrops. Beautiful!
Spring Blooms - Part 2
ge, your pots are beautiful!
- You're right pirl, sometimes I forget just how nasty people can be, (im too busy looking at my Snowdrops! Hee Hee!). ☺
So would I if I had them!
I sure miss my pottery business. My days started with a stroll to the studio past what I called a garden with my coffee, wedged up about 100 pounds of clay and started on the inventory for that day. It was a small business and run like a big one only I was everything from the product creater to the janitor. Ihated to giv it up, clay too heavy. My friend the sculptor is much younger than me , we traded pots for years now we trade pots for paintings, she is a gardener too.
I tried to create a hyperlink(even have directions) but the website dissapears when I find mine, so --look at joanngentle.com thats where my whole professional life is.
I just put snowdrops and more crocuses, daffodils and muscari on my wish list for fall planting.
ge, you had a pottery buisiness? I love the feel of clay in my hands. I'm gonna go check out your website now!
Very nice. That's about ten days now, right?
Prunus Incisa 'Kojo No Mai'................ this is a beautiful twisted cherry tree.....
Beautiful. How big does it get.
Beautiful, Mark!
what a torcher. Spring seems ages away.
The Kojo No Mai gets to around 8 feet high................... the wonderful thing is it has twisted stems!! Very unusual and very very pretty
Do you have a pic of the structure, Mark?
Love the cat. I live with three, two are mine.
Yours looks well cared for.
Victor...................... no but will take one when i come back, going out for a little while............ just took some of the blooms on it.
we live with 3 cats too, but only one is ours............... he is my cat of 16 years!!!! He looks well though doesn't he.......?? LOL
Victor, No, longer. Iris Reticulata 'Purple Gem') began blooming by March 2nd and is still blooming . I have 'Harmony' (no picture) which began blooming on March 16th and is still blooming, but many got disturbed by the deer. Lovely dark one. I will take a picture. Plus Iris reticulata 'Clairette' (12.00 for 50) began on March 14th and that is the light blue group in the picture that is still blooming well. It was planted in the fall of 05, so this is the second year. I still have several others to bloom yet. ('Spring Time', 'Natascha', 'Marquerite' 'Pauline' 'Pixie' 'J.S. Dijt' and 'Cantab' I am a little worried about a few of these as they seem slow. Patti
Great - I think I will definitely get some this fall. Thanks.
Wow - gorgeous shade! Great name.
great color,I remember a thread yesterday that had helleborus.
Does anyone have a good source?
I am in such a weird area of my zone, everything blooms later for me than just 1/2 mile north of here. I have tons coming up but no flowers yet.
ge - I have gotten many from deerresistantplants.com. Mention to Dave that I referred you.
T hanks Victor, I also found two other sites with Google Images.
Senecahillperennials.com and Pineknotfarms.com.
Pine Knot is a large grower and has a wholesale option.
You can buy wholesale??
this thread is a riot!- I missed last evening and I can't sort out all the topics people started talking about- i had about 20 different comments in mind as i read it, all in different directions-
well, I do love hellebores- (the most recent topic)- especially the double ones- I'm thinking of ordering this spring from Pine Knot Farms.. their doubles look gorgeous....
Welcome to any thread on this forum!! Think pinball. I ordered doubles from Barry at Sunshine Farms. They're not cheap.
Very nice David. Thanks for getting us back on track!
Victor....not much happening here with all the drippy days this week. Same for you? The heptacodium you suggested I get last year is starting to bud . So glad I put planted it in the fall rather than wait.
Victor, I couldn't figure out that site of Barry's. Nice dog. But I am border collie partial. I ended up not ordering from the coop, as I have some which were tiny last year and have been very very slow to grow. I think I will hold off until I find some big kids that are affordable. If ever. Or just wait to divide mine. I want some green upright growing ones like I saw at the flower show in Boston.
Mr. C. Loved seeing the cowslips in Eng. Now that is zone envy. I adore them. I have a big stand in VT currently under 4' of snow and more last night. DH went to school south of you in Blandford.
GE1836, Love the picture of your old great container garden. Canna in pots, I need to do that as I hope I have a bunch correctly stored in the basement to pot up soon. I am afraid to look. I started my Dahlias in baggies that I stored yesterday. I see a few eyes, but think I got that all wrong too. Hopeful, but realistically, I assume I won't have many returning. I will have better luck with the calla and glad bulbs.
Yes, David back to bulbs. Love that Glory of snow. None yet for me. Some other things starting to look good. That euphorbia that rcn48 posted about in Nov. Euphorbia 'Helena's Blush' is great. I planted it in Dec along with another that I found in Newfane Vt. The other one I am excited about starting is the winter aconite. Patti
Yes, David - same here. Patti, I only buy specials from Barry. As I said earlier, I get most of my hellebores from deerresistantplants. Always nice stuff from him and he guarantees them. Love euphorbia!!
Bbrook...thought you and I overdid it on bulbs last fall but I'm finding out it takes lot of make an impact. Because they are coming up at different times and I don't have enough yellows and whites, 2,400 bulbs in the front yard aren't really a "wow". 1,000 along side the kitchen are better but I wanted passing traffic to have more of a show. Oh well..another few thousand next year ought to do it....
Edit...hmmm...for some reason the photo of the front yard didn't upload well. It doesn't look THAT bad.....

Crazy pixelation - I think it has too low of size(kb)
bbrookrd
I love all wildflowers............. Cowslips and oxlip especially!!
Blandford is in Dorset isn't it......??? That is well south of us!!!
Mark
Yes, in Dorset. I thought it was about an hour south, but maybe I don't remember well. Primula are a favorite always. Patti
