spring bulb planting

(Zone 5b)

I have read that one can plant bulbs in spring, as soon as the ground is "workable". Does this mean that those bulbs will bloom THIS spring? Thanks for any replies.

spring bulbs will bloom this year. Lilies, and many others. Fall planted bulbs such as tulips and daffodils need a chill period to bloom and will not bloom just planted in spring. Having said that, many companies ARE offering pre chilled bulbs for spring planting.

Spring flowers that come from bulbs and bulb-like tubers-- crocuses, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, irises, etc--must be planted in the fall. As mentioned above they need the winter cold to bloom in the spring.
Summer-blooming lilies, glads, crocosmia, dahlias, caladiums and fall-blooming crocuses, spider lilies and others can be planted in spring for later season blooms.
