Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

My first hummer last year was April 24.

Batavia, OH(Zone 6a)

Whoo Hoo!!!!!! How soon before you usually start seeing the whole lot of 'em come back?

Two weeks early probably not something we should be celebrating; hopefully not a portent of the future, just an early year. On the other hand, there's always a silver lining, might as well enjoy it.

Off the top of my head I really don't know. I put most of my pics on a disc. I'll have to get back to you w/ the answer later. :-)

Pelle...I'm so happy you saw your first Hummer...the first of many!! The map shows them all over Mo. except for a tiny hole where I live. But I'm sure they will show up beore too long.

I had seen the site for migration, and put out my feeder about a week ago here in Middle TN. Actually saw a male ruby-throat yesterday, 4/12. He's back today, so he must have liked it!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I have so enjoyed all the excitement when a hummer is finally spotted. Congrats to everyone who finally has one and keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of you!

I hadn't seen mine for a few days and I was worried that she left me. Yesterday morning I set up the sprinkler (my part of Texas hasn't had rain in weeks). It was a cold morning, but there she was taking a bath in the spray. This morning it's really cold by my standards, so I was inside downloading some blurry pictures of a kinglet when she flew up to the window and hovered there. I guess she was telling me that I was just being a wimp and it's not that cold out. brrrrrrr - crazy hummer! Maybe she wanted in!

Marlton, NJ

Glad she's still there Elphaba! :-)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I just put out my 2nd feeder in back.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Finally, I managed another hummer photo! The birds this morning are amazing. Even the goldfinches are back again!

YAAAAY Pelle... Mine were two weeks early too! GO GLOBAL WARMING! I've seen "Scout" every day since April 8 and the past few years it's been around the 23rd when I saw my first one.
Scout even chased a nuthatch away from the feeder yesterday... the 'hatch was trying to sip from the ant moat where rain had collected. So we're off and running with hummingbird season.
Coo13549 - I have that same feeder (as I'm sure lots of us do) It's SOOOO easy to clean. I have about four different kinds of hummer feeders. That one is my favorite and seems to be their favorite as well.
The hummingbird garden in front of my house is looking good. The salvia is already blooming as are several columbines and the honeysuckle is ready to pop. The bee balm stalks are about a foot tall already. WIth forecasts of frost I want to tell everything to GO BACK TO SLEEP until the weekend!

Corgimom, somehow I missed your question about my camera. It's a point and shoot. Believe me, I'm not qualified to handle more than that! It does have a good zoom on it though. It's a Kodak Z740. My camera could do more but I'm too stupid to figure it out. The really good cameras (with better photographers) can actually get the wings. In some of my photos, the wings are invisible.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It's so much fun to track the hummers as they appear north for you guys! I'm now living north of Houston for a few more weeks, and I saw the first one at the feeder on April 1. Now the house finches are hogging the feeder. I almost got a pic of a house finch on one side and a male hummer on the other - but they flew away too fast.

Elphaba - the yellow tubular flowers you showed above were my hummer's favorite in Houston. It is a cestrum. Last summer's rain almost did it in - it looks awful, but is still blooming. Two winters in a row, I had a female hummer stay from December through Feb. The cestrum was the ticket!

I've heard yellow is THE color for summer. Guess even the hummingbirds keep track of fashion!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Gah, no Capes!!! Did you not see the Incredibles? They're bad for your health.

Franklin, TN

Thanks for your encouragement. I planted some perennials today that should attract hummers. Can't wait till they get some size and bloom. We have lots of bumblebees on our lilac bush. It's blooming for the first time since we moved into this house, just over 2 years ago.
