Great shot! A beautiful little hummer. Pretty abutilon, too. Is that this one?

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
I don't know which one it is. It was in a tiny pot with a label that just said "red abutilon." I think if it were voodoo, they would have said so. It's been very nice. Some of my other abutilons have more of a tree form. This one is like a weeping bush.
Male ruby-throat spotted at my feeder today at about 5:30 PM. Doing the happy dance.
I have my feeder up & waiting. Scouts are just a little south of me now!
congrats beclu!!!
Whoohoo!!! Congratulations beclu!!!
I saw two chasing each other yesterday.
Thats great Frank! I hope you get some pics soon!

Nanny, I just looked at the map and I SWORE that was YOU yesterday!!!

You all are so funny! I LOVE this thread.
Checking the map every 2 minutes indeed. Oh yeah. Better head to the basement for the feeder. Bye!
Nope, not yet! I did a test post and my dot was almost in the middle...think they need smaller dots! lol
Nanny, I see they only want you to post sightings of mature males. That was interesting.
I don't think I've ever even HAD a mature male here. Mine are all either female or immature male and (have I complained about this recently????? ) only in the fall.
I think my male is trying to chase the other male away so he will go further north. So ya'll watch for him.
We get them all here all summer. It was very, very, entertaining last summer!! At our old house we only got them starting in August during the fall migration. Never knew why, I had feeders out all summer, ever hopeful.
Cincinnati has a siting! But not at my house. Sitting under the feeder waiting patiently, HA (tap, tap, tap, tap, tap).
Elphaba, what kind of camera do you have? It must be more than a "point and shoot" ! Beautiful pics everyone !
Thats great! Keeping fingers crossed for you! Nice pic!
This hummer passed me by and ended up in RI!!! Check the map! GM
There will be more heading your way GM!!
GM...they passed me by over a week ago!! I am beginning to feel neglected!! ;0(
I have my feeders available, but I saw one drinking from my snap pea flowers. Do you have anything flowering? Stuff here is flowering a little early. I think that's why they are here about a week early for me. Becky
Becky..the only thing flowering in our yard are daffodils...everything else is just starting. I noticed a lot of different trees around that are in bloom as well as Forsynthia but not in our yard. I've had a red petunia hanging for about a week and the feeders have been out longer than that. I'm going to town tomorrow and get some flowering plants to put around the yard...maybe that will help. They have been spotted way north of us and I think they must have avoided the storms we had last week. Of course we have storms expected again tomorrow and the next day so they may bypass us again. Boo hoo.....
We're having some not too nice weather here too. Although it wasn't raining it was quite raw out today.
We are expecting rain again here starting tomorrow afternoon. We had some bad storms here Friday. I have only seen hummers two times since then but I have not been around much. My neighbor said he spotted a female. Our highs are in the mid eighties and the lows around 60. The daffodils are gone as is the wisteria. The azalia blooms are beginning to decline. I have a few volunteer sunflowers blooming. The irises are starting to bloom. The perennial salvias have been blooming for two months. The lantanas came back out but are not blooming yet. The only red plants that I have seen for sale so far have just been petunias and annual salvia. A lot of the neighbors have hummer feeders out. I guess I ran my mouth too much about seeing some.
Hopefully the month will go out as a Lamb! :-)
Nice pic Frank!
Still looking at empty feeders here but it won't be long now. :-)
What about red mandavilla? Do hummers like them?
From the looks of that feeder, now seems like a perfect time to remind everyone who claims to love feeding birds so much to keep your bird feeders clean. Mold... not so good for hummingbird throats.

HOLY COW. They are moving fast. Those feeders are going up tomorrow!! But it is going to be sooo nasty!
Be sure to put one in the front as well as one in the back.
I envy all of you who see hummers. I live in Franklin, TN (just south of Nashville) and saw only one last year. No one fed at the feeder. Haven't seen any so far this year.
Well these are just scouts that come way ahead of the main numbers of hummers.
I'm sure you see more this summer MaryJI!
Mary, keep trying. You'll have lots of hummers before you know it! Keep your feeder clean--supposed to change the water and wash every 3 days but I go about 5 days. Is your feeder red? If not, you might need a new one. I tried pretty feeders for a long time, but they dripped and didn't attract any hummers. Finally gave up and went with this one, which a friend had a lot of luck with and worked great for me. But any red one will do, I'm sure.
Also, try moving your feeder around...it's possible that it's just in a bad spot. Of course, mine's right in a south facing kitchen window, faded to pink, and had no problems last year (haven't seen any this year yet).
Pardon the suet stained window--need to get on that today!
I HAVE A HUMMINGBIRD!!!!
Just saw it on a feeder in the backyard. I'm off to report it!!
ALRIGHT PELLE!!!
YAYYYYY!!!
Thanks. I did report it but doubt I'll have a dot on the map as theres not much room for another report. I think this is the earliest I've seen one by a few weeks anyway.
Do you generally get spring visitors then?
